A)阅读短文,根据短文内容判断所给句子正(T)误(F)。(共5小题,每小题2分)

Bangladesh (孟加拉) is an agricultural country between India and Burma. Storms from the Indian Ocean sweep across the country every year, and large areas of farming land are flooded (冲毁). The people are very poor.

Fewer than half of the countrys children complete their primary education. When they are six or seven years old, many children leave school to work in the fields or at home. The rest of their “education” consists of looking after cattle, collecting firewood or doing household jobs.

Not long ago, an experimental school was opened near the capital, Dacca, to help poor children. There are only 120 children in the school, which has three classrooms. In each class, forty pupils are divided into four groups of ten. Each pupil is free to decide which group he or she wants to join.

The most able pupils do a great deal of the teaching. They act as group monitors. Their duty is to ensure that all pupils in their group understand and practise what the teacher has taught.

There are a number of unusual features in the Bangladesh school. Children do not move up a class automatically when they grow older. Each group is promoted (升级) only when EVERY pupil in it has succeeded in getting to the right standard. As a result, all members of a group work hard to help the less able pupils. Nobody is left behind.

Lessons are extremely practical and include work on farming, carpentry, health and running a home, as well as lessons on the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic. At school, pupils prepare for adult life by learning to carry out almost all the tasks which they will face when they grow older.

If pupils have to look after cattle or young children, they are allowed to bring them to school. If a child has to stay at home to help his parents, there is no scolding or punishment (責罚) at school. Children enjoy their lessons and the school is cheap to run. It is so successful that other schools in Bangladesh are beginning to imitate (模仿) its methods. Visitors are even coming from other agricultural countries to see if they can use a similar method.

(    )21. Many people in Bangladesh work on farms.

(    )22. Most children in Bangladesh complete their primary education.

(    )23. In each group, the biggest or oldest pupil is made a monitor.

(    )24. At the end of each school year, all the pupils move to a higher class.

(    )25. At school, pupils learn to do almost all the tasks needed in adult life.

Ray Tokuda, a 54-year-old Japanese American, is proud of the title his school has given him. He is a Shifu, a Chinese word meaning a master of martial arts (武术).

Tokuda has reason to be proud. He has been practising Chinese martial arts for almost forty years. After learning them at the martial arts school in New Mexico State, today he is one of the most experienced kung fu teachers of the school.

Practising martial arts two to three hours and helping students improve their skills have become Tokudas daily routine (日常生活). He expects to practise and teach martial arts for the rest of his life. “Im still learning. Its worth more than a lifetime to learn Chinese martial arts,” he said. “Once I started, I just couldnt stop. I think its also the magic of Chinese culture.”

Tokuda was sent to the martial arts school when he was 10. He still remembers how hard for him to start out. “My father had always wanted to learn Chinese martial arts but never got the chance, so he put his kid in,” he said. “I was so afraid at that time because I thought kung fu was all about fighting.”

But things changed after he learned that martial arts were more than fighting.

“One of the things martial arts teach me is overcoming difficulty,” Tokuda said. “As a little kid, my first lesson was like, oh, look, this is a thing that I can get through by diligence (勤奋), perseverance (毅力) and dedication (奉献精神), and that was valuable for my life.”

Learning Chinese martial arts opened a door for him to better understand Chinese culture because he could hear a lot of ancient Chinese kung fu-related stories. He said, “I feel martial arts protect something of ancient China that cant be found in books. They are sort of an oral history.”

Tokuda has also been invited to various events in his home state to show traditional Chinese culture, including the dragon dance and lion dance, which he also learnt at the martial arts school. Because of this, he is now considered a cultural envoy (使者) in the eyes of the public.

A good book can be satisfying, can improve your knowledge and can teach you a lot. There are several ways to develop a lifetime reading habit.

Set times. You should have a few set times every day when youll read for at least 5-10 minutes, no matter what happens. For example, make it a habit to read during breakfast and lunch (and even dinner if you eat alone).

Always carry a book. No matter where you go, take a book with you. When you leave the house, make sure to have at least one book. You may keep the book in the car, or into the office or to anywhere you go, unless youre sure you wont have time to read.

Make a list. Keep a list of all the great books you want to read. You can keep this in a pocket notebook. Be sure to add to it whenever you hear about a good book. Keep a running list, and cross out the ones you have read.

Find a quiet place. Find a place in your home where you can sit in a comfortable chair without television or computer near the chair. There should be no music or noisy family members.

Set a high aim. For example, tell yourself that you want to read 50 books this year. Try your best to finish reading them. Just be sure youre still enjoying the reading.

Three months after Hurricane (飓风) Katrina in 2005, Rebecca Sell, then 24, a photojournalist (新闻摄影记者), took a picture of a New Orleans couple. They were worriedly examining their photo albums (相册) which were found in the water. “I told them I could take the damaged pictures, copy them and give them digitally restored (数码修复) photos,” she said. Although with a bit of doubt, the couple agreed. Rebecca took their photos home, restored them and took them to the couple at their home. “It felt so good to be able to do that for them,” says Rebecca.

When her partner, Dave Ellis, saw the photo of the couple, he suggested they go back and restore damaged photos for even more people. So in January 2006, they left the newspaper and set up a shop in Pass Christian. After posting a notice in the community newsletter (社区通讯), Rebecca and Dave received 500 photos in four days. For each, they took a new digital picture, and then used high-tech software to deal with water spots and restore colors. It just so happened that a popular website linked to Daves blog about the experience, and soon Operation Photo Rescue had e-mails from hundreds of volunteers, offering their help.

Though digital restoration is a painstaking job, mending family pictures means the world to people like Emily Lancaster. She was 71 and took out lots of damaged photo albums after Katrina, never thinking the mess could be saved. But she just couldnt stand losing a few valuable pictures, including a picture of her father, who had passed away, and a photo of her husband as a boy. Then she heard about Operation Photo Rescue.“I didnt have a whole lot of hope they could fix them, but they did,” Emily says.

“Its great to be able to give people some of their history back,” says Rebecca. “One person told me that thanks to us, her grandmother got to see her photos again before she passed away. Moments like that remind me why I do this.”

46. When did Dave and Rebecca leave their job?

47. What was Emily Lancasters opinion about Operation Photo Rescue when she first heard it?

48. How did hundreds of volunteers know Operation Photo Rescue?

49. What does Rebecca think of her photo rescue job?
