Part I Pre-class
I. Teaching objectives
Language abilities By the end of the class, students will be able to learn the key vocabulary about Mid-Autumn Festival and talk about plans using the sentence pattern “be going to”.
Cultural characters Students will know some conventions about Chinese traditional Mid- Autumn Festival and get to know acrostic poems.
Thinking traits Students are encouraged to think critically through different activities, like discussion,prediction, etc.
Learning abilities Students will know how to get information using
different reading strategies and try to write imitatively with the help of prompts and necessary expressions.

1. Key words and expressions about Mid-Autumn Festival.
2. Practice important reading strategies, scanning and retelling.

1.Three new phrases: Mid-Autumn Festival, poem, and be/get

Ⅵ. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Warm-up & lead-in
1.Do actions and let Ss guess what I am going to do.
2.Enjoy three pieces of songs and guess: Which festivals are the
songs about? Teach the word “festival”.
Purpose: My vivid body language serves dual purpose in forming a relaxed learning atmosphere and reviewing the sentence pattern “be going to”. The familiar songs about festivals will arouse Ss curiosity and lead in the topic naturally. These three-minute pre-class activities are very
fundamental in this lesson.
Step 2 Pre- reading
Look at the pictures and title, get the students to try to predict the main characters through PSC reading:
Predicting: What festival are we going to learn today?
Scanning: Look through the text and find out the answer.
Checking: Show the answer: Mid-Autumn Festival.
Purpose: Ss can practice their predicting and scanning skills with
interest, and it will create information gap for them to compare and learn. Besides, checking builds a sense of achievement as well, which in turn promotes their learning interests.
Step 3 While-reading
1. Focus on language
2. Read in depth
3. Acrostic poem
5. Black board design.
I think a good blackboard design is an efficient way to make information more memorable. So my design is visualized and impressive, and it is tailor made for this lesson and for kids.
Part III Self-assessment
This is a reading lesson. Various reading strategies and PSC model are adopted in this lesson in order to develop Ss learning abilities. During the whole lesson, language is learned through a process of “guided discovery”.
