Love is like the wild rose-briar，

Friendship like the holly-tree.

The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms，

But which will bloom most constantly？

The wild rose-briar is sweet in the spring，

Its summer blossoms scent the air;

Yet wait till winter comes again，

And who will call the wild-briar fair？

Then scorn the silly rose-wreath now，

And deck thee with the hollys sheen，

That when December blights thy brow，

艾米莉·勃朗特（1818—1848），19世纪英国女作家、诗人，著名的勃朗特三姐妹之一，世界文学名著《呼啸山庄》的作者。她短暂的一生创作了约两百首诗，被认为是英国一位天才型的女作家。
