A Case Study on the Application of Story—Situation Method in Vocabulary Teaching in Grade One

◆Abstract:The “Core Competence” in primary school English request to cultivate students ability of language and learning; cultural awareness and thinking quality.According to young childrens cognitive psychology,how to achieve this goal of raising students interest in English learning,forming a good learning habit and developing effective learning strategies in their daily life,the author try to using the Story teaching method to attract grade one students attention in the classroom and improve the efficiency of learning.

Instructional design

Teaching material:First grade English book published by People Education Press.

Teaching content:Unit 2 face,Lesson 1 words.

Teaching time:September 17,2018.

Teaching objectives:

According to the four dimensions of English Core competency and the English standards of New curriculum English ,the author divides the teaching objectives into:

(1)Students can listen and speak the five words of eye,nose,mouth,face and ear.

(2)Students can know the importance of facial organ and know the facial features of foreigners.

Key and difficult points in teaching:

(1)Key point:Promote students to master the pronunciation of five words especially focus on “nose” and “mouth”.

(2)Difficult point:Accurately correspond the words of English organs to the proper position of the face.

Teaching aids:

Flash cards;video about facial organ;PPT.

Step 6:Consolidation

Teacher point the cards and let students read,after that teacher know how many students master the words and read the words for them twice time.

Step:Blackboard design

Conclusion

Vocabulary teaching to some extent,is difficult for teacher to instruct and for 5~7 years old students to master and put it to practice.In this class,the teacher adopts the Story-Situation Method to encourage students thinking about teaching content and have encourage to express their opinions.During the teaching process,students not only learn the words quickly but also has a great desire to learn more knowledge about this class.There is no doubt that Story- Situation Method is good for teachers to combining childrens psychological characteristics and cognitive characteristics to cultivate the students ability of listening,speaking and practicing on the basis of they grasp the content of this lesson.It also has merits that fully mobilize the enthusiasm of the students,let the students master the new knowledge in a relaxed and happy way.
