Exploration of English Teaching Reform in Higher Vocational Machinery Industry

【Abstract】The reform of English teaching in Higher Vocational Colleges based on the training program of professional talents, which adheres to the correct orientation of English teaching reform as the service of professional talents training, has distinct characteristics of higher vocational education.The training of English language skills boldly integrates the teaching requirements of scientific English related to the training of mechanical professionals, highlights the teaching focus and adheres to the principle of “giving priority to practicality and making adequate use of it”.

1. Introduction

The reform of English curriculum system and teaching methods in Vocational and technical colleges has been closely centered on the macro objectives of college construction and development, with remarkable achievements. With the change of enrollment situation, the situation of students is becoming more complex. In order to better serve the training of professionals and adapt to the new situation of the diversified training programs for professionals, the College has advanced with the times the teaching reform plan and implementation plan of industry English. Compared with the previous goal assessment and the reform of English teaching for science and technology, the reform of English teaching for industry is not only related to the reform of curriculum and curriculum system, but also to the bold reform of teaching content.

2. Curriculum and Innovation

The syllabus of English for Machinery Industry stipulates that through the project design activities based on future work orientation and typical work tasks, the students of machinery specialty can understand the English language knowledge related to their future work field and cultivate their ability to use English language to solve the specific problems. It lays a foundation for the sustainable development of students English language competence in the future professional work in this field. The reform of curriculum objectives has solved the problem of orientation of knowledge objectives and competence objectives of basic English and professional English courses. Following the principles of curriculum nature and target orientation of basic English, the curriculum of mechanical English between basic English and professional English courses has been determined.

3. Reform of teaching content

Teaching content reform features embodied in the following aspects: first, the establishment of business modules based on machinery industry is the most important innovation of teaching content reform. Second, each unit selection of specific teaching content is according to the future of our industry.Students through the machinery industry, therefore, the learning of English, can more fully familiar with the general work process of machinery industry, adapt to the development of industries and the change of the specific work, understand the basic task in the field of work involved in the requirements of the general language communication, to master relevant knowledge of the English language.

4. Conclusion

To sum up, English is the combination of mechanical machinery industry concrete situation in the field of industry, the organic integration of professional and business module of teaching content, insist on English teaching reform in the service of the professional people to cultivate correct guidance, is a special color on higher vocational characteristic and school. The cultivation of English language skills boldly integrates the teaching requirements of English for science and technology and business English related to the cultivation of mechanical professionals, emphasizes the key points of teaching, and insists on “practicality first, enough is enough”.
