Try to Be Number One

I was not interesting① in English before. Of course， I was not good at it， and I could hardly keep up with my classmates. But things changed after I met Miss Yu.

When I was a new student of Grade Three of the Junior Middle School， Miss Yu taught us English. She was very lovely， and looked more like a schoolgirl than an English teacher. I loved her and respected her very much. She looked on me as a little sister of her own. Before long， we became good friends. And under② her kind of help， I studied harder than before and I made much progress little by little.

One Friday afternoon she asked me to go to her office and took out a New Students English-Chinese Dictionary. She put it in my hands and said， “I bought this dictionary for you. I think it will be useful to you. I hope you will study hardly③ and try to be the first in your class！”

I opened the dictionary： On the first page was written “Try to be Number One！” They were the very words that encouraged me every moment. I studied harder and harder， and made rapid progresses④ in my lessons， especially in English. In October， in an English competition in our school， I won the first prize.

I realized that we must believe that we have the ability to overcome difficulties. We must try our best.

1. 优点：

作者怀着感激的心情写了英语老师帮助她进步的过程。她对英语课的喜欢是来自于对老师的喜欢和敬慕，真可谓“爱屋及乌”！

2. 需要修改的地方：

① interesting改为interested。形容人“对……感兴趣”应该用interested。

② under改为with。with ones help意为“在……的帮助下”;

③ hardly改为hard。hard意为“努力地”，hardly意为“几乎不”;

④ progresses去掉es。progress是不可数名词。

按中考英语作文满分20分的评分标准，本文修改前可得18分。
