Every dog has its day

①Roscoe was a big,ugly dog.His owner left him chained up outside every day.Roscoe was always nice to everyone.He didn't even trouble the rat in a nearby hole.

②One day,one of the boys had a candy bar in his hand.Roscoe jumped up when he smelled that candy bar.He tried to run over to the boy,but his chain stopped him.The boys all laughed.

③After that,when those boys passed Roscoe,they did something bad to him.Sometimes they laughed at him.Sometimes they threw things at him.PoorRoscoewas having a hard time.He became really sad.

④The rat that lived in the hole saw all the things.She didn't think it was nice.She decided to helpRoscoe.Shewatchedandwaited.When Roscoe went to sleep on a warm afternoon,she quietly ran over to him.She began chewing on Roscoe's collar.

⑤The rat ran back into her hole and saw that the boys were coming.Roscoe woke up now but he was very afraid.When the boys saw Roscoe,they laughed and started throwing sticks at him.

⑥Roscoe didn't know what to do.He wanted to run away from here.He jumped and jumped.This time when he got to the end of his chain,his chain dropped.He felt very surprised at first,but soon he was very happy.

⑦The boys ran away,but one of them fell.Before he could get up again,Roscoewasthere.When Roscoe saw how scared the boy was,he began to slowly lick his hand.

⑧That boy made sure the others would never trouble Roscoe again.From then on,they made good friends.Every dog has its day,and thatday was surely Roscoe's.It was a very good day for the rat,too.
