Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics is the undisputable leader when it comes to providing business outcomes for the global textile industry. The global sourcing summit that is Intertextile Shanghai wrapped up with a huge 15% increase in the buyer figure to 82,314 from 104 countries and regions (2017: 71,450, 103 countries and regions), to go along with the 3,386 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions (2017: 3,341, 26 countries and regions) that exhibited at the National Exhibition and Convention Center. Strong growth was registered in buyers from China Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and India – this editions top four countries and regions – while Italy and Bangladesh entered the top 10 list this year, in eighth and tenth places respectively, alongside the U.S., China Taiwan, Russia and the UK.
“After the strong increase in the buyer figure at last Octobers Autumn Edition and the generally favourable outlook of the global textile industry in recent months, we were expecting a strong result this year, but the increased number of exhibitors and buyers placing their trust in this fair as their main business platform has completely exceeded our expectations,”Ms. Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. explained after the fair. “We put this exceptional result down to the fact that there is no other industry event that matches Intertextile Shanghais scale, but most importantly that year after year the fair delivers new contacts from around the world and actual orders & business results for exhibitors. With the quality & quantity of buyers this edition and the tangible outcomes reported to us by exhibitors, the fair has reached a new level as the kick-off event for the spring / summer season.”
Just one of the many exhibitors to echo these sentiments was first-time French lace exhibitor Jean Bracq. “We are here to promote our lace to worldwide markets,” Mr. Philippe Larrieu, Responsible Commercial Export, said. “A lot of people have come to our booth, including from China, Australia, India, France, the U.S. and more. On the first day we had already received 60 sampling enquiries – even our catalogue ran out! So the result is beyond our expectation. At this fair, we not only meet new buyers, but also see our existing customers which we usually meet in fairs in Paris.”
Seven halls and 187,000 sqm., equal to 2017, were in use at this edition, with everything from fabrics for ladieswear, menswear, suiting, shirting, lingerie and swimwear to high-end wool fabrics, original pattern designs, functional & performance fabrics, sustainability products & services, digital printing technologies, garment & fashion accessories and more on display. Growth areas this edition included the Premium Wool Zone, with the exhibitor number doubling from last year, reflecting the evolving use of wool in spring/summer collections. The international area of the Beyond Denim zone also doubled in size this year, while overseas presence in Accessories Vision grew by 73%.
Commerce and trade contact is the be-all and end-all of industrial exhibition platform
Trade contact in the exhibition halls was carried out like a raging fire. Sparks have been spurted between professional visitors and exhibits among a sea of faces in diversified fabrics and accessories on the lively scene of business card exchange.

Director Zheng Qinghua introduced that as a branch of Guangdong Jianye Textile, Kinggear Textile is dedicated to production of lace fabrics. This is its third time to independently participate in an exhibition. There are different popular colors in exhibits this year, presenting geometric pattern, flower pattern, etc. She expressed that laces this year are mostly applied for embellishment instead of fullpiece lace clothing design in the past years.

Volcanic ash is not uncommon in beauty products– it is known as Mother Natures skin purifier after all, and used as an exfoliator for example – but it is far less common in the textile industry. Orta presented BIOCHARGE at Intertextile, which, according to the company, is the worlds first denim fabric for muscle wellness. Infused with minerals, Orta state that BIOCHARGE is medically proven to refresh muscles, relieve muscle tension and optimise body balance. They also presented their BOUNCE stretch range, with high elasticity and a ‘streetstyle, while CHRONICLE, another in their S/S 19 range, is a blend of heritage and future styles.

Argento series of products of Super 200 brought by this company this time have used top-end silver ion finishing technology to realize professional finishing of 13.5μ superfine Merino wool. Electric conductivity of silver ions can effectively prevent accumulation of electrostatic charge, so fabrics treated through this technology also have anti-stating features.

Wang Tao introduced, “this technology is called burn-out. As a newly developed product this year, this product is relatively rare in market and is quite welcomed by European and American markets. The needed pattern is printed on fabric using special material, then cotton at upper layer the fabric is burned out using a specific solution, and hollowed-out chinlon at bottom with high intensity is left”. In addition, laterstage embroidery, gradient ramp and irregular washing and other technologies are quite conspicuous.

- ‘Banshu-Ori, or Banshu weave -
Included in this editions Japan Pavilion are three companies from the Nishiwaki region, which is famous for its ‘Banshu-Ori, or Banshu weave. BanshuOri is a yarn-dyed fabric, woven into various patterns, such as checks and stripes, with yarns that are dyed before being woven by weaving machines. This tradition dates back to 1792, and was showcased by Bon Co., Ltd., Ueyama Orimono Corp and Kuwamura Co., Ltd. at the fair. Bon showcased a range of new products using this traditional technique, including organic cotton fabrics, paper yarn fabrics and indigo items.

Prosperity Textile has promoted “elastic at four sides” sports jeans made of high-strength denim, the product is wear-resisting and can keep warm, and infrared rays can promote blood circulation and“help” you to run whenever and wherever possible.
General manager assistant Tan Kaisi from Prosperity Textile introduced that the raw material of this product is “Tencel” extracted from cotton waste under the cooperation with Blue Whale and it becomes a new fiber which is then re-produced into fabric and designed as ready-to-wear apparels.

After the pattern is transmitted to computer, all kinds of effects can be printed out through software processing of color cards! Using principles of printer, this printing machine realizes digital printing with unlimited patterns, dimensions and fabrics, and printing speed can reach 50m2/h.
Dover moved 3.2m-width machine to the exhibition, which soon became the focus of the numerous camera lens. Technical service supervisor in MS China Zone Liu Dong introduced that “this machine has been configured with 8 colors at present, which saves color separation process for traditional dyeing. 10 colors can be managed by traditional machine at most, but this machine doesnt have color limitation and can realize completely individualized services.”

Numerous creative trials have been carried out on regenerated yarn, including recycling yarn waste in production flow, based on which Conservablue technology of Kipas Denim aims at canceling excessive rinsing process before and after indigo blue dyeing so as to reduce environmental hazards caused by dyeing process while ensuring that the used dyestuff can be 100% adhered to yarn after necessary rinsing.
