The Application of Multimedia to High School English Teaching

Abstract:How to improve the efficiency of English teaching has always been an urgent problem in teaching practice. The development of multimedia provides a new way for solving this problem. The researches on the multimedia -application in English teaching have been prevalent in recent years, but its application in high school English teaching is still lagging.
1. Introduction
This paper analyzes the present situation of the application of multimedia technology in Junior High school English teaching, so as to provide Junior High school English teachers with reference to multimedia teaching and further thinking on the future teaching design, and to improve the English teaching efficiency in primary school.
2.1 Gardners theory of multiple intelligence
Professor Gardner believes that in the life of a person, each kind of intelligence has its own unique development period and different peak periods. As long as the activity is appropriate and accompanied by other intellectual factors of students, add the appropriate educational environment, students can use some of their more developed intelligence to stimulate other intelligence.
2.2 Krashens language acquisition theory
Krashen claims that the comprehensible teaching methods have clear advantages over traditional audio lingual methods. The reason is that they can make use of comprehensible input in this way as Krashen (1982, p. 49) proposes that “an approach that provides substantial quantities of comprehensible input will do much better than any of the older approaches”.
3. Literature review
3.1 Studies of multimedia application in middle school abroad
In the 20th century, some countries in Europe and America took the lead in the application of electronic technology research in the field of education, which made modern education media technology a rapid development.
3.2 Studies of multimedia application in middle school at home
With the rapid development and popularization of computer technology, multimedia computer has gradually replaced the previous teaching methods. Computer network was gradually applied to teaching, so the stage of multimedia teaching should actually be called computer-aided teaching.
4. Research method

The research focuses on the multimedia and its impact on English teaching of the higher grade students in primary school-No. 6 Junior High School. It aims to answer the following questions:endprint
Question 1: What is the present state of multimedia application in No. 6 Junior High School English teaching?
Question 2: How does multimedia computer-assisted English teaching effect on Schoo No. 6 Junior High School English teaching?
Question 3: What kind of attitude do students have on the usage of multimedia?
4.2 Procedures
The research study was conducted at No. 6 Junior High School, 100 students were chosen as the subjects, who came from Class 11 and Class12, Grade Seven. The two classes were chosen according to English teachers introduction.
5. The application of multimedia to primary English teaching
5.1 The application of multimedia in teaching language knowledge
Pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar are three basic parts of language knowledge. This part mainly focuses on applying multimedia to optimize pronunciation teaching, vocabulary teaching, and grammar teaching in No. 6 Junior High School.
5.1.1 Optimizing pronunciation teaching
The teaching of pronunciation should focus on the students ability to identify and produce English sounds themselves. In traditional way, when teaching pronunciation, students are simply demanded to repeat the teachers pronunciation. But some teachers pronunciation is not accurate enough, as a result, it is easy to make students have incorrect pronunciation.
5.1.2 Optimizing vocabulary teaching
As an essential part of English, word teaching is particularly critical. Teachers should seize the interest of students, use the advantage of good memory. Such as the use of courseware, first from internet download some photos of the human body structure, as long as the parts of the word into the exact location, the picture will be lit. Students are immediately attracted, so they will actively recite the word.
In word teaching, intuitive teaching is better than the general explanation. The use of multimedia teaching has a strong stimulating effect, conducive to rouse students interests in learning and promoting students knowledge construction.
6. Conclusion
The paper has found that widely using of multimedia in primary school is a great help to students English learning, no matter in language knowledge or language competence. Undoubtedly, Multimedia assisted teaching should be regarded as a necessary teaching mode and an indispensable tool to the primary English teachers.endprint
