访问重庆大学,探讨双方教育科技领域合作机会

7月11日上午,约翰斯顿一行来到重庆大学,出席“科学、技术和创新圆桌讨论会”。中国驻加拿大大使卢沙野、重庆市副市长刘桂平,重庆市政府外事侨务办公室主任吴康明、副主任唐文等,与约翰斯顿、加拿大驻华大使麦家廉、驻重庆总领事欧阳飞及代表团成员共同参加会议。
重庆大学校长周绪红、云南大学党委书记杨林、西南大学校长张卫国、电子科技大学副校长熊彩东等,中加高校领导及研究人员在会上分享经验,探讨双边在科学、技术和创新方面的研究合作。据了解,重庆大学与加拿大交流合作日益紧密。目前,该校已与滑铁卢大学等7所加拿大大学建立了密切合作交流关系。
加拿大是中国西南地区在科技领域国际合作与交流的最重要合作伙伴国家之一,建立了系列高水平的科技国际合作平台,包括中加两国政府根据《中加科技协定》联合资助的重大项目、加拿大社会与人文研究院重大资助项目、加拿大省级政府资助的项目、中国的省级科技国际合作基地、科技部国家级科技国际合作基地、千人计划专家项目、外专千人计划专家项目和111创新引智项目。
中加高校领导及研究人员在会上分享经验,探讨双边在科学、技术和创新方面的研究合作。目前,重庆大学已与滑铁卢大学等7所加拿大大学建立了密切合作交流关系。
在科学、技术与创新领域,与中国西南地区合作的加拿大主要机构包括不列颠哥伦比亚大学、阿尔伯塔大学、加拿大国家研究委员会、温莎大学、滑铁卢大学、麦吉尔大学、西安大略大学和纽芬兰纪念大学。主要合作领域包括核电站安全仪表控制技术、云南高原湖泊环境保护、长江三峡水科学、医学机器人、呼吸疾病、高风险妊娠病、阿兹海默病、多元文化和少数民族教育等。
据悉,今年4月,加拿大国际贸易部长在重庆会见了参与中加科技合作项目的科学家代表。本次中加“科学、技术与创新圆桌会议”是约翰斯顿一行访渝的首场活动,再次体现了加拿大对科学、技术与创新的重视,和对中加科技合作的支持。
圆桌会议后,约翰斯顿为3位“加拿大总督访问勋章”获得者颁发奖章。其中,重庆唯一获得该殊荣的是重庆医科大学附属儿童医院前院长李廷玉教授。她的获奖理由是,为重庆与加拿大在儿童健康等教育和科研领域的合作作出了重要贡献。
On the morning of July 11, Johnston and the delegation went to Chongqing University to attend the “Round-table Meeting of Science, Technology and Innovation”. This meeting was attended by Lu Shaye (Chinese Ambassador to Canada), Liu Guiping (Deputy Mayor of Chongqing), Wu Kangming (Director of Foreign and Overseas of Chinese Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government), Tang Wen (Deputy Director of Foreign and Overseas of Chinese Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government), Johnston and John McCallum (Canadian Ambassador in China), Mr. Philippe Rheault (Consul-General of Canada in Chongqing) and the members of delegation.
Leaders and researchers of colleges and universities of both sides including Zhou Xuhong (President of Chongqing University), Yang Lin (Party Secretary of Yunnan University), Zhang Weiguo (President of Southwest University) and Xiong Caidong (Vice-President of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China), shared experiences and discussed the bilateral research cooperation in science, technology and innovation. It is understood that the cooperation between Chongqing University and Canada become more increasingly intense. At present, Chongqing University has established close cooperation and exchange with seven Canadian universities including University of Waterloo.
Canada is one of the most important partners to the southwest China in international cooperation and exchange of science and technology. A series of high-level international cooperation platform of science and technology was built including major projects cofunded by China and Canada according to the “China-Canada Agreement of Science and Technology”, major projects funded by the Canadian Social and Humanities Research Institute, projects funded by provincial government of Canada, provincial science and technology international cooperation base of China, national science and technology international cooperation base of Ministry of Science and Technology, Thousand Talents Program, The Recruitment Program of Global Experts and 111 Program.
In the field of science, technology and innovation, the major institutions cooperated with the southwest China include University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, National Research Council of Canada, University of Windsor, University of Waterloo, McGill University, University of Western Ontario and Newfoundland Memorial University. The cooperation covers the fields including the control technology of safety instrument of nuclear power plant, the protection of the environment of Yunnan plateau lake, water science of Three Gorges of Yangtze River, medical robot, respiratory disease, high-risk pregnancy disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multi-culture and minority education and etc.
It is reported that in April of this year, Minister of International Trade of Canada met with the representatives of scientists participating in the China-Canada scientific and technological cooperation project in Chongqing. The round-table meeting was the fi rst event that Johnston and his delegation participated in, which again had shown their great attention attached to the science, technology and innovation and their support to the cooperation between two sides. After the round-table meeting, 3 people were awarded the “Visiting Medal of Governor General of Canada” by Johnston. Professor Li Tingyu, the former director of Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, was the only one who won this honor in Chongqing for her great contributions she made in the cooperation between two sides in the education and research area of child’s health.
