与人体部位有关的英文短语

摘要:在英语学习过程中我们时常遇到和人体部位有关的短语搭配,它们既简练又生动,能够简洁明了地传达讲话人的意图,同时又使听话者准确形象地接收信息,从而有效地促成了谈话双方预期的信息交换。

关键词:人体部位;短语搭配;形象生动

在英语学习的过程中,我们可以留意到其中有不少和人体部位相关的短语搭配或习惯用法。它们具有明晰简练、形象生动的特点。学习者如果能够恰当地加以运用,则会给人留下“如见其貌,如闻其声”的深刻印象。

1. head:头部,头脑

(1) come to a head: 紧要关头; 紧急时刻

It came to a head when the Prime was murdered.

(首相的遇刺身亡使事态濒临危急关头。)

(2) laugh one’s head off: 笑掉大牙

When I told her the funny joke she almost laughed her head off.

(听过了我讲的滑稽故事,她笑得直不起腰来。)

(3) put ones’ heads together: 共同协商

We must put our heads together to decide which way to go.

(我们得一起来商量,共同决定发展的方向。)

2. face:脸面,面部

(1) pull a long face: 闷闷不乐,不高兴

When he was told he couldn’t go to the London Tower he pulled a long face.

(当得知不能去游览伦敦塔时,他显得很不高兴。)

(2) lose face: 丢脸,没面子

He was afraid of failure because he didn’t want to lose face with his friends. (他害怕失败是因为他不愿在朋友面前丢脸。)

3. eye:眼睛

(1) make eyes at: 暗送秋波

He made eyes at every girl he met.

(他对遇见的每个女孩都暗送秋波。)

(2) my eye: 哎呦, 胡说

A diamond, my eye! That’s glass.

(钻石?!怎么可能!那是玻璃。)

(3) keep one’s eyes open: 警觉,留心

The thieves have kept their eyes open for the police.

(小偷时刻提防着警察。)

4. ear:耳朵

(1) play it by ear: 随机应变

We should play it by ear when something unexpected happens.

(意外发生时我们要能够随机应变,灵活处理。)

(2) prick up one’s ears: 竖起耳朵仔细地听

I pricked up my ears when they started talking something about me.

(当他们聊起我时,我在一旁仔细地听着。)

(3) Walls have ears. (隔墙有耳。)

5. nose:鼻子

(1) powder one’s nose: (尤指女士)上厕所

Excuse me, could you tell me how to get to the nearest toilet? I just want to powder my nose.

(劳驾请问最近的卫生间在哪?我需要方便一下。)

(2)keep one’s nose out of:不要多管闲事

e.g. Keep your nose out of here. It has nothing to do with you.

(不要多管闲事,此事与你无关。)

(3) a button nose:塌塌鼻

I guess the guy who has a button nose is from South China.

(我想那个家伙应该是南方人。他有一个塌塌鼻。)

6. teeth:牙齿

(1) show one’s teeth: 张牙舞爪,威吓

It’s useless to show your teeth to us. No one is afraid of you here.

(没必要冲我们张牙舞爪的。在这儿没人怕你。)

(2) tooth and nail竭尽全力地,坚决地

They fought tooth and nail to get their plan carried out.

(他们尽力争取使他们的计划得以实施。)

(3) lie in one’s teeth: 睁着眼睛说瞎话,撒谎成性

I don’t think he is honest. He often lies in his teeth.

(我觉得他一点都不老实,一天到晚净说瞎话。)

7. tongue:舌部,舌头

(1) bite one’s tongue:有话不直说 (尤其迫不得已时)

I can’t imagine what would happen if I told the boy his mother was killed by the accident, so what I can do is to bite my tongue tightly.

(我无法想象这小男孩如果得知妈妈在事故中出了意外他会发生什么事情,因此我没有向这孩子透露一字半句。)

(2) get one’s tongue round: 准确地发音,正确地拼读

I found it so hard to get my tongue round these French words.

(我发现要把这些法语字词准确地拼读出来还真不是一件易事。)

8. bosom:胸部

a bosom friend:亲密的朋友

Jane and I have been bosom friends for years. We exchange our opinions, thoughts with each other from time to time.
