The door bell was ringing.

“Jason, honey? Can you answer the door?” “Im busy, mom!” Jason shouted back at his mother. He had spent three hours so far working to his point in the game. He couldnt stop now.

Ding-dong!Moms footsteps approached the front door.

“Jason, its your friend Todd.” Mom called from the doorway. Todd, his best friend, stepped into the room. “Jason!I need a partner for playing basketball,” he sounded excited. Jason said to

him, “No way, Todd. Im playing a game here.” Jason gave his friend a dirty look, and his character in the game almost got killed while he looked away, “I almost died because of you!”

Todd looked at Jasons mother. Jasons mother looked back at him. They both looked at Jason. “Why dont you play basketball with your friend?” Jasons mother suggested. “Tomorrow, maybe ...” There were more levels to beat tomorrow, though. Maybe he had to play tomorrow. He had to see what mood he was in. He thought he heard footsteps walking away, but he was too busy beating the next level to care.

An hour later, Jasons father came home. It was dinner time after his father washed up and sat down. Jason didnt even hear his name being called to the table. He didnt hear his father walk at behind him and ask him to turn off the game, either.

When the screen suddenly went black and his fathers angry face turned up in front of him, Jason finally heard. “No more game for a month.” Jasons father shouted at him. “You dont play basketball, you dont come to dinner, and you dont do your chores. Well make sure everything else gets done before you play any more.”

Jason nodded slowly. He knew better than to argue with his father, and when he thought about it, he had been playing quite a bit. It was fun, but he was letting down his friends, his family, and himself by playing too much.

Tony Wheeler was born to travel. His father worked for an airline. For the first 16 years of his life. Wheeler and his family lived in many different countries.

In the early 1970s, Wheeler met a young woman named Maureen. They soon married. Before getting jobs, Tony and Maureen wanted to travel. They took a year-long trip from London, through Asia, to Australia. On the trip, they visited places like India, Iran, and Afghanistan.

When Tony and Maureen arrived in Australia, people asked many questions about their trip. To answer these questions, Wheeler wrote a guidebook called Across Asia on the Cheap. The book told people about different countries weather, customs, and places to see. But unlike travel guides in the 1970s, Wheelers book also talked about places most tourists did not go. He also wrote about unusual things to see and do. The book was very popular.

Wheeler and Maureen started a company called Lonely Planet. They continued travelling. They wrote guidebooks for each place they visited. Today, 400 people work for Lonely Planet.
