In the ancient time, there was a small village where a family of Yang lived. They lived on farming by the mountain. The family had two sons. The elder one is called Yang Zhu while the younger one was Yang Bu. The two brothers are helping their parents plough the land and carry the water. They were also studying hard and were good at calligraphy. Thusly they befriended a group of poets and artists.

One day, Yang Bu went out to visit his friends in clean white clothes. However, the rain suddenly fell when he was on his way to his friends home. Yang Bu could find nowhere to shelter himself from the rain. He had to hurry up to his friends home and got there all drenched. His friend, who had spent a lot of time talking about poems, calligraphic works and paintings, lent him a new black robe. Then they began to talk about the new poems they had written in recent times. They were so deeply engaged in their talk that they did not notice the sunset. His friend invited Yang Bu to dinner at home and after that, Yang Bu returned home with his friends black clothes while he left his original white clothes in his friends home for drying.

At that time the rain had stopped and the stone-paved path were not dotted by muddy or water puddles. The air was quite fresh thanks to the rain and the gentle wind sent the unique fragrance to Yang Bus nostrils. Feeling intoxicated and bewildered by the beautiful scenes after rain, Yang Bu slowed down, planning to have a closer look at the waterwashed mountain at dusk.

When he arrived at his own home, the dark was full and Yang Bu was still thinking of the discussion about literature works at his friends home. He did not notice his own dog bark at him and let out the threatening growl. The dog did not recognize Yang Bu as its owner because of the difference in clothes colors. It thought him to be an invader and tried to drive him away. Yang Bu was quite raged. He cursed at the dog: “Dont you recognize me, you blind creature?”

The dog did not retreat and kept barking. The furious Yang Bu raised a club and was poised to strike at the dog. His elder brother Yang Zhu heard the noises outside and went out. He stopped Yang Zhu while calming down the dog. Then he told Yang Bu: “Why did you want to hit the beast? You had different clothes from what you wore in the morning. It was hard for a man to recognize you in the dark, let alone a dog.”

Yang Bu thought for a while and agreed with his brother: it is him that should be blamed for this incident.
