Luo Weizhong Senior Executive of CNOOC under Investigation for Bribery
2015-03-10
On November 13, the anti-corruption campaign in Chinas oil system moved toward China National Offshore Oil Corporation (hereinafter referred as CNOOC). The Supreme Peoples Procuratorate announced on the same day that Shenzhen Municipal Peoples Procuratorate was investigating Luo Weizhong, General Manager of CNOOC Gas International Trading Group, for being suspected of taking bribe. It is the first anti-corruption case against an oil system senior executive since the earlier earthquake happened in China National Petroleum Corporation.
Public report shows that Luo Weizhong was born in 1961 and joined CNOOC in 1982. He moved up in the company step by step to higher level. In July, 2012, he left the parent company and started to work as high-level executive in CNOOC Gas & Electric.
CNOOC Gas & Electric is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CNOOC. It unifies all the business operation and management of CNOOCs gas and electric division. Under the pressure of environment deterioration, CNOOC has put a lot of effort in importing LNG (liquefied natural gas), trying to make a breakthrough in domestic natural gas market.
On March 25, 2013, Luo Weizhong assumed the office of General Manager of CNOOC Gas International Trading Group, taking charge of the investment in gas importation terminal ports and long term LNG transactions.
