Successful Launch of Resid Selective Deep Catalytic Cracking Technology at SINOPEC

The 250 kt/a resid selective deep catalytic cracking (MCP) unit constructed at the Yangzhou Petrochemical Company Limited (YPCL) of the Jiangsu Oil field has been operating to meet the design target with the low-carbon ole fins yield reaching over 20%. This fact has shown that the MCP technology has commanded a leading position in the world.

This project adopts the MCP technology jointly developed by the SINOPEC Research Institute of Petroleum Processing (RIPP) and YPCL. The said technology can process the paraf finic residuum to yield low-carbon olefins with high add-value. The MCP unit since its commissioning on July 30, 2011 has been obviously increasing its ratio of high-add value products in the product slate. For instance, the yield of cracked liquid hydrocarbons has increased by 5—10 percentage points, the anti-knock rating of cracked gasoline has increased by 1—2 octane numbers, while the cracked diesel quality is maintained at a stable level. The yield of propylene and isobutene has increased by 6—9 percentage points, while the new product butene-1 can create an additional economic benefit amounting to 200 RMB a ton. The scheduled start-up of the dry gas recovery unit can deliver a new product - the mixed aromatics — to help YPCL achieve the transition from an oil refining enterprise to a chemical enterprise that can produce low-carbon olefins with increased yield of propylene and isobutylene.
