The corruption in universities happened one by one recently. After Nie Rongsheng, head of the Recruitment Department at Renmin University of China, An Xiaoyu, deputy headmaster of Sichuan University was placed under investigation too.

An insider from Sichuan University conformed that saying and stated that “further details were not available”.

An Xiaoyu was born in December 1854. He began his work in 1969. He once worked as the assistant to headmaster of Sichuan University, deputy headmaster of Xinjiang University. He was appointed deputy headmaster of Sichuan University as of September 2009, taking charge of the logistics and infrastructure of the university.

His positions were related to his fall. He was possibly involved in the corruption in the construction of the new campus of Sichuan University in Jiangan, Chengdu. The new campus is located in Shuangliu County, Chengdu. The total investment amounted to 2.6 billion yuan. An Xiaoyu was one of the principal directors then.

Before An Xiaoyu, several headmasters of universities in Sichuan fell from grace in 2013. Most of them were involved in logistics and infrastructure construction. The expansion in the recruitment of students by universities brought about the need for expanding the new campus. This set up a hotbed for the corruption. In addition, the rights of leaders of universities are rarely monitored, further opening the access for them to the corruption.
