Moving-bed MTP Technology Enters Its Commercial Application Phase
On October 10, 2014 the project “Study on the catalyst and the process of moving-bed methanol-to-propylene (MMTP) process” jointly undertaken by the SINOPEC RIPP, the Zhejiang University, the Luoyang Petrochemical Engineering Company (LPEC) and the Hunan Jianchang Stock Limited Liability Company had passed in Beijing the technical appraisal organized by the SINOPEC Science & Technical Division, denoting that this technology will enter its commercial application phase.
This technology, being a brand-new MTP manufacture process since the startup of joint development stage in September 2012, has accumulatively applied for 30 Chinese invention patents to form independent intellectual property rights. In the course of technical appraisal the experts attending the meeting made positive review on the achievements of this project and the 10-kt/a class process design package (PDP). The Expert Appraisal Committee deems that MMTP is a project of new technology and new process with important technical innovation nature and application prospect. The continuous regeneration of the catalyst and the reaction process are always in the best plateau stage which is characteristic of stable performance, easy operation, highly guaranteed safety and lower investment cost. The 10-kt/a class PDP has detailed contents to perform the assignment specified in the SINOPEC’s technical contract and can serve as the design basis for the project scale-up unit. The experts have raise a proposition to speed up the commercial scale tests.
