毒树

I was angry with my friend：

I told my wrath， my wrath did end.

I was angry with my foe：

I told it not， my wrath did grow.

And I watered it in fears，

Night & morning with my tears；

And I sunned it with smiles，

And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night，

Till it bore an apple bright.

And my foe beheld it shine，

And he knew that it was mine.

And into my garden stole，

When the night had veiled the pole；

In the morning glad I see，

My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

我与友人结怨：

我倾诉宣泄，怨怒便告止息。

我与敌人结怨：

我沉默不语，怨怒便暗暗生长。

在日日夜夜的恐惧中，

我用泪水将它浇灌；

微笑着，用温柔欺瞒的诡计，

将它照耀。

它日夜不停地生长，

直至结出一个苹果，鲜亮明媚。

我的敌人瞧见它的光彩，

知道那是我种下的果实。

当夜的漆黑把树干裹起，

他悄悄潜入我的花园；

清晨我高兴地看到，

我的敌人僵直地躺倒在树下。
