The Chinese Aluminum Processing Industry Advanced Despite the Global Economic Recession in 2011.

In 2011, about 30 aluminum section projects were completed and put into production. The production capacity of aluminum extrusion materials has been increased by about 1500kt/a and about 200 new aluminum extruders have been put into production, among which the largest is the 150 MN double-action positive extruder introduced from Germany by Shandong Yankuang Light Alloy, which is up-todate the largest extruder with the highest installed capacity in the world.

Shandong Yankuang Light Alloy is a professional aluminum extrusion enterprise built at a single time that specializes in the production of aluminum sections for rail vehicle structures,with the largest production capacity and highest installed capacity in the world. It has 18 horizontal extruders of different levels and types with a production capacity of 140kt/a,distributed in four giant modern plants. 4 out of the 18 extruders were introduced from SMSSiemagMeer. Except the 150MN extruder which is under installation and commissioning,the others have been put into production. The 18 extruders include the 55MN, 80MN,100MN and 150MN. The 150MN extruder can produce sections with a maximum 1100 mm width, pipes with a maximum 700 outer diameter, bars with a maximum 450mm outer diameter and seamless pipes with a maximum 580 outer diameter. The company has a vertical solid solution treatment furnace, 40 m in height, which is/ the highest in the world. The project has a total investment of 2.825 billion yuan.

Qinghai Guoxin Aluminum Industry Incorporated Company is a large professional aluminum extrusion enterprise in China that was built and put into production in 2011. It has ten modern extruders, including two 10MN, two 17MN, one 19 MN, one 24MN, one 28MN,one 36MN, one 55MN and one 100MN. The 2A12, 5052, 7075 and 7A04-H112 bars produced by the company in 2011have been supplied in large amounts to Forging and Casting Company of Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Company for forging aircraft parts.

Wanjie New Building Materials Co., Ltd., built and put into production in late 2011 in Erdos,Inner Mongolia, is the largest building material production base in the northwestern region and one of the largest enterprises that produce aluminum extrusion materials. The company was founded in 2006 and constructed in three phases on a land area of 30,104 m2 with a total investment of 1.34 billion yuan. An investment of 340 million yuan was made in the Phase I and over 30kt plastic construction materials of different specifications such as PVC-U, PE,PP-R and PVC pipes and fittings could be produced per year from December 2008. In the Phase II, an investment of 430 million yuan was made to produce 100 kt plastic construction materials such as PVC high-smooth plastic steel sections and PVC per year, which were put into production in July 2011. In the Phase III, an investment of 570 million yuan was made to produce 100kt bridge and industrial aluminum sections per year.

Midas Aluminum Industries Co., Ltd. began its three-phase construction in 2009. The main construction project is a 110MN double action positive extruder designed and manufactured by Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Co, Ltd., which can increase the company’s production capacity of large industrial sections by 10kt/a.

Tiancheng Aluminum Co., Ltd. was put into production in Zhanjiang in August 2011. It is a relocated enterprise and the largest aluminum material plant in Zhanjiang with an annual production capacity of 12kt construction aluminum sections，6kt industrial aluminum sections and 100,104m2/a aluminum alloy doors,windows and panel walls and an average annual revenue of 500 million yuan.

The 50kt/a energy-efficient aluminum alloy sections project of Zhejiang Dongliang New Material Co., Ltd. was under construction as scheduled and will be put into production in late 2011. After being put into production, the project will further promote its energy-efficient construction aluminum alloy doors and windows in the market and increase the market share of the company’s products with a high added value.

Located in the Jiangbei Industrial Park, Zixing County, the company specializes in the continuous extrusion of pipes, bars and sections.Founded in September 2009, the Phase I had 12 extrusion lines with an investment of 314 million yuan, a land area of 21,104 m2, a building area of 4.31104m2 and a production capacity of 12kt/a. The Phase II will be completed in 2012 to increase the total production capacity to 60kt/a.

The project has a total investment of 1.769 billion yuan and the maximum extruder 75MN(double action positive and negative) with a production capacity of 150kt/a. It was put into production in 2011.

On March 28, 2011, Guangdong Haomei Aluminum Co., Ltd. and the Development Zone of Tianjin Binhai New District signed a cooperation agreement about a high-grade aluminum alloy sections production base with a production capacity of 100kt/a. Haomei Aluminum is a large aluminum section enterprise that integrates the R&D, design, manufacturing and sales together.

Hunan Changsha New zhensheng Group is constructing an aluminum section processing base in Guluo Industrial Park. The project with a total production capacity of 80kt/a will be implemented in three phases. The Phase I, with an investment of 150 million yuan will be completed and put into production in May 2012.

Baiyin Guangtai Aluminum started a project in the Baiyin Aluminum Sections Industrial Park in Baiyin, Gansu in May 2011.

The project with a production capacity of 120kt/a aluminum sections was constructed by Foshan Nanhai Xiongxin Aluminum with an investment of about 200 million yuan. After it’s completed, the project can realize an annual output of 4 billion yuan, total annual profits of about 5.5 million yuan and an annual tax of 30 million yuan and employ 1200 people.

Nanchang Xiongying Aluminum Co., Ltd. has a total land area of 30,104m2. Its Phase II project, with a total investment of 400 million yuan and a land area of 46000m2 of the extrusion workshop, is a major project of Nanchang.After it’s completed, the project can increase the company’s production capacity by 180 kt/a to 300kt/a. The dominating product is the industrial aluminum section with a high added value.

Shandong Nanshan Aluminum Company purchased 14 advanced extruders from Meer at a single time in 2010, which were gradually put into production from December 2011. Through this purchase, the company becomes the extrusion enterprise with the largest number of extruders of this type and the most modern equipment. These extruders are of single or double action, positive or negative type with an extrusion pressure between 11MN and 150MN.It is unprecedented in China and even in the world to install so many first-class and modern extruders. Among these extruders, the 150MN extruder is the second one in China and third in the world. All three of them were manufactured by Schlomen, or Meer. The 150MN extruder in America is a hydraulic press manufactured during the World War II and then transformed to a modern oil press by Universal Alloy Corporation in 2006.

Liaoning huludao Aluminum started a project in the Economic Development Zone on August 13, 2011. The project has a production capacity of 300kt/a aluminum sections, a total investment of 8.12 billion yuan, a total building area of 292, 104m2 and a construction period of 3-4 years.

Qufu Wodehu Aluminum Co., Ltd., located in the Economic Development Zone of Qufu, has a production capacity of 150kt/a aluminum sections of all kinds. It completed the construction of 1.8104m2 No. 1 and No. 4 workshops in 2011with a cumulative investment of 190 million yuan. The No. 1 workshop has been input into operation.

Yunnan Metallurgical Group and Yunnan Aluminum Co., Ltd. have jointly invested 3.0-4.2 billion yuan to construct Lixin Aluminum Co., Ltd. in Lijiang. The project, with a production capacity of 150kt/a traffic aluminum sections and industrial pipes and bars and a construction period of 3 years, will be put into production in 2014. Yunnan Aluminum Co., Ltd.has 60% of the shares and the rest is owned by Yunnan Metallurgical Group.

Anhui Dongwei Group is constructing a PV aluminum project (solar module frame) in the Economic and Technological Development Zone of Hefei. With a total investment of over 400 million yuan, a land area of 12,104m2 and a designed production capacity of 3000104 frames, the project is the largest solar module frame production project in China and will be put into production in March 2012.

Guangdong Fenglv Aluminum Co., Ltd. plans to construct an extruded aluminum project with a production capacity of 300kt/a in Jiaozuo,Henan. The estimated investment is 5 billion yuan. The company has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Municipal Government of Jiaozuo. Guangdong Fenglv Aluminum Co., Ltd., founded in 1990, currently has a production capacity of 300kt/a aluminum sections.

CAC and Sapa Group signed an agreement on April 8, 2011in Beijing to construct special aluminum sections for trail traffic. With an annual production of 20 kt special aluminum sections and car modules for rail traffic, the project will be operated and managed by Sapa Group. The initial investment is estimated to exceed 600 million yuan. The two companies will jointly establish an aluminum section production enterprise that integrates aluminum alloy R&D, extrusion and car module processing.In the initial stage, one 100MN extrusion production line and two friction stir welding lines will be built. The joint venture is a typical result of the cooperation between two strong enterprises.

Jiangsu Suzhou Lopsking Aluminum Co., Ltd.is an enterprise solely funded by Taiwan Lopsking Group. The resolution of the Board of Directors, released on June 30, 2011, stated that the company plans to invest 650 million yuan in increasing the production capacity of extrusion materials by 100kt/a. The project will be implemented in two phases. The Phase I,with a production capacity of 50kt/a, will be put into production in 2012.

Xinfa Group has invested 2.3 billion yuan in setting up subsidiaries in Chengdu, Yichuan of Jiangxi and Jiaozuo of Henan. With a total production capacity of 260kt/a, the project will be implemented in two phases and gradually put into production from 2010. When the project is fully completed and put into production in 2014, Xifa Group will have 4 plants and 131 extruders in China with a total production capacity of 430kt/a, becoming the enterprise with the most number of extruders that primarily produces construction aluminum sections.

Zhongwang Group has developed a plan to gradually withdraw from construction aluminum sections and commit to industrial aluminum sections. The company declared it had spent over 8 billion yuan purchasing over 20 extruders with an extrusion pressure≥90MN,all of which will be put into production by 2015. By that time, there will be 86 extrusion production lines with a total production capacity of 1200kt/a. There are 11 big extruders with an extrusion pressure of 75MN, all produced by Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd.

There are about 35 other projects under construction with a total production capacity of about 1050kt/a and a total investment of over 12 billion yuan. Of course, these projects may not be all completed. There are about 21 other extruded aluminum projects that were put into production in 2011 with a total production capacity of about 850 kt/a and a total investment of about 6.5 billion yuan.

There are about 50 aluminum extrusion projects under construction with a total production capacity of about 3500 kt/a and about 32 big extruders. The construction of large aluminum section projects and big extruders is still popular and may last another five to six years.

Yunlv Runxin Aluminum Co., Ltd. started the construction of the aluminum section project with a production capacity of 100kt/a in the Honghe Industrial Park on December 21, 2010.The project is a specific move of Yunnan Metallurgical Group to adjust the production capacity of aluminum smelting and deep processing, create a reasonable, complete and matching industry chain, accelerate the technological and industrial upgrading and strengthen the sustainable development capability by taking the geographical advantage of Honghe. The project has an estimated investment of 130 million yuan and a construction period of ten months.

Haomei Aluminum has built an aluminum alloy section base with a production capacity of 100kt/a in Tianjin.
