世博会为处在历史性时刻的世界提供难得机遇。世博会的积极作用不仅仅体现在上海,也不仅仅体现在中国。上海世博会的主题“城市,让生活更美好”,此主题特别突出世界性事件,如绿色环保、和谐发展、和平友好等。本次世博会即将展现一个科学发展、和平崛起的中国,同时展现对中国传统文化的精髓的承传与发展的亮点。温家宝总理说过,我们确实把举办上海世博会当作一件大事来办,因为这给了我们一个机会,就是让世界了解中国,也让中国了解世界。

Chinese Premier(国务院总理) Wen Jiabao said the upcoming(即将到来的) Shanghai World Expo (世博会)will promote (推进) exchange (交流) of human civilizations(文明)and show the latest achievements(成就) of civilizations around the globe.

Wen, in an online(在线))chat with netizens(网友), said the Shanghai World Expo will be a chance to enhance(促进) friendship and cooperation(合作) between China and the rest of the world.

Premier Wen told the story of Helen Keller, a famous blind(盲人) American writer who toured(参观)the Chicago(芝加哥) World Expo in 1893 with the touch of her hands, to show that world expos can give hope to the world.

Premier Wen said“the Chinese people yearned(向往) to host(举办) a world expo for more than a century. Although we have attended 12 world expos, this one will be the first we host.”

He also said the Chinese government values the Shanghai World Expo since the event improves mutual(相互的) understanding between China and the rest of the world.
