On June 16, Dai Beijun, former Director of Zhejiang Environmental Protection Bureau was removed from the post because of his activities of breaking the rules. His Party membership was also canceled.
It was reported that Dai, during his tenure in Zhejiang, abused his rights to take bribery of 3 million yuan (USD 438.9 thousand). His mistress Zhang Yan was also involved in the case and was arrested by the discipline inspection commission.
Dai Beijun was the Director of Zhejiang Environmental Protection Bureau from 2004 to 2008. During his tenure, Zhejiang Environmental Protection Bureau severely punished the illegal actions against environmental protection rules and regualtions. The environment in Zhejiang also improved a lot. People described him as a cadre who dared to punish and strike the illegal actions. But some people said that he was a law onto himself.
In 2004, Dai Beijun acquainted himself with Zhang Yan, who was called “the IT Beauty of Hangzhou”. Zhang, with “strong social skills”, controlled an IT company based in Hangzhou. With Dais help, this company took all the orders from Zhejiang Environmental Protection Bureau to upgrade or maintain its information system for three years. Apart from that, this company also set foot in government-backed information projects of many other fields.
In December 2008, Dai, who just retired from the post, was accused of taking bribery and so on and was investigated by the discipline inspection commission.
