A little girl had been shopping with her Mom in Wal-Mart. She must have been 6-year-old. Her beautiful red hair caught my sight. “What a lovely angel!” I thought to myself. After paying for all I had chosen, I was going to leave. But I found it was pouring outside. Many people stood under the awning(凉棚) and just inside the door of Wal-Mart.

We waited, some patiently, others irritated(急躁) because nature messed up their hurried day. I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Suddenly I heard a little sweet voice. It was her—the red-haired girl. “Mom, lets run through the rain,” she said.

“What?” Mom said.

“Lets run through the rain!” she repeated.

“No, honey. Well wait until it slows down a bit,” Mom replied.

This young child waited about another minute and repeated, “Mom, lets run through the rain.”

“No, well get wet if we do that,” Mom said.

“No, we wont, Mom. Thats not what you said this morning,” the young girl said as she tugged (用力拉) at her Moms arm.

“This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?”

“Dont you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, if God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!”

The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I couldnt hear anything but the rain. No one came or left in the next few minutes.

Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say. “Honey, you are right. Lets run through the rain. If God let us get wet, well, maybe we just need washing,” Mom said.

Then they ran off. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted(疾走) past the cars and, yes, through the puddles (地上积水). They got wet. But they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars.

And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing.
