1.种类惊人

Do you know that there are many more kinds of insects on the earth than any other kind of living creature(生物)? Its hard to imagine（难以想象）, but 95% of all the animal species（种类） on the earth are insects!Over（超过） one million species have been discovered（被发现） by scientists, and they think that there might be（可能有）TEN times that many!

2.身体构造

All insects must have:

·three body parts - a head, thorax, and abdomen (头,胸,腹)

·six jointed legs (六条有关节的腿)

·two antennae to sense the world around them (能感知周围的触角)

·an exoskeleton (outside skeleton) (外壳)

3.成功法宝

Scientists believe that insects are so successful because:

·they have a protective shell or exoskeleton

·they are small

·most of them can fly

Their small size and ability to fly（飞行的能力） helps them to escape from（逃离） enemies and travel to new environments. Because they are small they need only small amounts of （少量的）food and can live in very small cracks（缝隙） and spaces. Insects can also produce large numbers of offspring(子孙后代) very quickly.
