Video Game’s Rave Reviews

The video game “Black Myth: Wukong,” deeply rooted in Chinese culture, received an overwhelmingly positive reaction from players worldwide after its release on August 20.

Within 10 hours of its official release globally, the Triple-A game had over two million concurrent players on Steam, a leading gaming platform. The unexpected success of “Black Myth: Wukong,” developed by a private Chinese company over six years, has allowed players to appreciate traditional Chinese culture in concert with the fun and joy of playing the game.

The video game, inspired by the Chinese classical novel Journey to the West, surpassed the popularity of other much-hyped single-player titles like “Cyberpunk 2077” and “Elden Ring,” according to data tracker SteamDB.

Stone Carvings of Quyang

An exhibition of Quyang stone carvings is now underway at the National Museum of China in Beijing. This exhibition is divided into two sections:“The Lustrous Millennia” and “The Modern Legacy.” The former section features quintessential stone carvings from the Han (202 B.C.-220 A.D.) to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). The latter highlights the innovative works of contemporary Quyang craftsmen who adapted the traditional techniques to meet modern tastes and demands.

Quyang in Hebei Province is revered as the cradle of Chinese stone sculpture and celebrated for its exquisite white marble carvings. The exhibition presents a rich tapestry of the splendors of Quyang stone carvings throughout history, offering a systematic reflection of the evolution of the traditional craft’s techniques and its artistic innovation.
