I am an editor withWomen of China, an English-language magazine based in Beijing. I started to readChina Todayseveral years ago, and it has become one of my favorite English magazines published in China. The reports are informative with eye-catching pictures, and the magazine has welldesigned covers. I especially love the storytelling writing style of the articles. From my perspective, the articles in the culture column are a good channel for foreign readers to get a better understanding of China’s rich and diverse culture. For example, the article titled “Exploring the Charm of Naxi Ethnic Culture in Lijiang” in the last December issue was very well-written. It reminded me of my first visit to the old town of Lijiang, in southwest China’s Yunnan Province, ten or so years ago. As a World Cultural Heritage Site, Lijiang is home to ancient architecture, with rich cultural heritage of ethnic communities. One of my most unforgettable memories was taking part in a bonfire party near the Lugu Lake, one of the most famous unpolluted highland lakes in China, where we danced with the ethnic Naxi people. I hope to read more engrossing stories inChina Todayin the future.

I am secretary general of the British East Asia Council(BEAC) and chairman of the International Council of Center for China and Globalization (CCG).I read Dr. Paul Jefferiss’ article titled “Fueling the Transition to a Low-carbon Future,” which was published on the official website ofChina Todayduring China’s “two sessions.” With his vision and knowledge based on his over 30 years’ experience in energy and climate change, I found the article very inspiring and forward-looking. I know that he serves as program leader for Climate Change & Sustainability at the U.K. National Committee on China (UKNCC),one of Great Britain’s leading platforms strengthening decision-making and facilitating dialogue on China-related affairs. For my part, I will strongly support any initiative to boost interaction between the U.K.and China, and invited leaders of UKNCC to meet with China’s ambassador to the U.K. Zheng Zeguang. This year marks the 50th anniversary of ambassadorial relations between China and the U.K. It is a good opportunity to reflect over the relationship between our two countries, and is also good timing for us to discharge our common responsibilities for global peace and sustainable development.
