Once upon a time， there was a little boy named Columbus. He lived in Italy. He was curious about eastern countries. He dreamed of getting there one day.

When he grew up， Columbus learned to sail. He thought the world was round. If he sailed west， one day he would arrive in Asia.

Columbus asked rich people to offer money. But most of them laughed at him. They said it was impossible to sail around the world.

Columbus did not give up. At last， the King and Queen of Spain gave him money for the trip.

Columbus set sail on August 3，1492. He had three ships. They sailed for a long time. His sailors were afraid of getting lost at sea. Columbus had to agree to turn back if they did not find land in three days.

On the night of the last day， Columbus and his sailors discovered an“island”. Columbus did not realize that he had arrived in America. He thought it was India. He went there many times. But during his life， he never realized that he had discovered America.
