微探險是一种新概念,它提倡人们走出舒适区,从喧嚣的都市生活走进自然,推荐人们去从未去过的地方,并通过强身健体和坚持旅行体验人生。
Before my daughter was born, my wife and I started our trips on weekends. We made long and difficult journeys in New Zealand, mountain biking and surfing in Portugal, and camping in Maine. The world was our oyster. Then we had a kid and our adventures decreased.
I reached a breaking point last winter, when, instead of a planned climbing of Mt Monadnock, I stayed home with my daughter, who caught a cold. Since that day, I have been satisfying my desire for the outdoors with a significant number of microadventures.
What is a microadventure? Alastair Humphreys, the goto author on the subject, calls it “an adventure that is short, simple, local, cheap—yet still fun, exciting, challenging, refreshing and rewarding”.
For a parent who has to look after kids, microadventures can be a way to get all the benefits of nature and exercise in small doses. The result will be a parent that is more replenished and less resentful—a win for the whole family.
As firsttime parents, they often hear that they should rest when their children are resting and catch up on all that missed sleep. And while I believe a good nap can make them feel strong and healthy again, I might offer a different perspective. Plan possible adventures, choose the best time with your significant other, put on your superhero cape and do something impressive.
What s a microadventure according to Alastair Humphreys?
