Artists of China Puppet Art Theater give full play to superb performance skills in performing puppet figurines manipulated by wooden rods, and demonstrate magical charms of the traditional puppet art through artistic embellishment. The performance of True-Fake Monkey Kings shows scenario changes in the universe, various expressions of the real Monkey King, and confrontations between real and fake Monkey Kings. It highlights intense acrobatic fighting scenes and group dances with aesthetic beauty.

Culture Day on Beijing Winter Olympics Held in New York

A Winter Olympics-themed Day was celebrated at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden in New York on December 12, 2021, bringing the 2022 Winter Olympics closer to American citizens.

During the event that was organized by the Chinese Consulate General in New York, a photo exhibition and lighting ceremony were held.

Key elements of the Beijing 2022 Games, including cute images of the Games official mascots Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon, as well as many sports pictograms, were put on display.

“The motto of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is ‘Together for a Shared Future. I believe that if we can play together, we can work together,” Chinese Consul General in New York Huang Ping said at the event.

Huang also voiced his hope that “athletes from around the world could happily meet and compete at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, so as to enhance mutual understanding and help build a better world.”

“The Olympic spirit of solidarity, friendship, and peace not only inspires athletes to exceed their physical limits, but also promotes cross-cultural understanding and builds a harmonious world,” said the Chinese diplomat.

Martha Neighbors, interim president and CEO at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, said in an interview with Xinhua that the motto of the Games “Together for a Shared Future” is a wonderful idea.

“I think thats absolutely something for not just individuals, but communities and nations to aspire to,” she said, adding that she wishes the Beijing Winter Olympics “a huge success.”

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will take place from February 4 to 20, followed by the Paralympic Winter Games between March 4 and 13.

Shanghai Opens World Expo Culture Park at 2010 World Expo Site

A World Expo culture park built on the 2010 World Expo site in Shanghai was partially opened on December 31, 2021, providing visitors with 85 hectares of leisure and entertainment space.

The park covers an area of approximately two square kilometers and consists of seven different theme park areas, most of which are still under construction.

The northern part of the park has been opened, and it contains the World Expo pavilions of Italy, Luxembourg, Russia, and France.

There are also other scenic spots in the area, such as an avenue decorated with stories of the 2010 World Expo, and a botanic garden full of World Expo elements.

The construction of the park began in 2017 and will be completed in 2023. With venues such as an opera house and an equestrian center, the park will offer various kinds of entertainment for visitors.

Tang Dynasty Saltworks Discovered in Tianjin

Archaeologists recently unearthed the ruins of a salt-making workshop dating all the way back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) as well as a large number of relics in Dongli District of north Chinas Tianjin Municipality, the municipal cultural heritage protection center said on December 29, 2021.

The salt-making workshop is located in the Junliangcheng site, where a large-scale rammed earth platform has also been discovered.

An excavation of the site was launched in April 2021, and an area of 8,000 square meters has been excavated so far.

Ancient wells, pits, ovens, and kilns for salt making along with tracks of wheels have been found at the site.

“This is the first time that ancient salt-making ruins have been discovered in Tianjin. The findings are of great significance to the study of the development of the salt industry in northern China in ancient times,” said Gan Caichao, a researcher at the center.

Household utensils such as pottery jars, copper coins, and animal bones have also been found at the site.
