I am a senior press and communications officer of the British Embassy in Beijing. From several articles of China Today which I have read, I particularly enjoyed those on the green and environmental topics, for example, the article “A Young Chinese Explorers Ambition and Action” in the January issue told a story about climate change and how Chinese young people took actions for a sustainable future.“Green Together” in the Special Report is another article that I found very informative. The Beijing 2022 Winter Games shine a spotlight on environmentally friendly practices and solutions. My foreign friends and I want to learn more details about that, for instance, how the green venues and green transportation work. It is inspiring to see that the ice at the National Speed Skating Oval and other three venues for ice sports will be made with an environmentally friendly cooling system that involves the use of carbon dioxide — a substance once labelled as the main culprit of global warming but now has improved its reputation as a refrigerant with the help of advanced technologies. It is also encouraging to see that not just the athletes strive to fulfill their dreams, but also a nation is endeavoring to realize a goal that is beneficial for all by cutting greenhouse gas emissions and thus mitigating climate change. Any eco-innovators and their breakthrough solutions that can truly save the planet will surely grab my attention.

I am a surgeon at Panhealth Medical Center in Wenzhou, southeast Chinas Zhejiang Province. I read the article titled“Global Young Leaders Promote Cross-Cultural Communication”in China Todays last October issue. I am one of the foreign representatives of the Global Young Leaders Dialogue (GYLD), who took part in a tour of Sichuan and Hebei provinces. Sichuan is such a green and historical province with a number of places to explore. While in Hebei, we visited a village named Xibaipo, an old revolutionary base of the Communist Party of China(CPC), and also Xiongan, a newly-developed urban area near Beijing, designed to be a smart and sustainable new city. During our travels, we marveled at the great achievements China has made over the past few decades. The valuable experience has really deepened my understanding of this great country. After the trip, we wrote a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping to express our hope of serving as a bridge in the promotion of exchanges and dialogue between China and the rest of the world. I also introduced the GYLD to my friends and my family. I was so proud that my brother Abdur Raheem Hosany was able to join us and attended the annual forum of GYLD in Beijing. In the future, we would like to see more young people join in with their vision, courage, and influence to drive positive changes in the world.
