Someone says the angel in our life is our parents. There is a similar saying in Jewish language. It is “God could not be everywhere and therefore be made mothers.” Mothers give us lives. They are great. They do many things for us. We should love them. Everyone should thank them. So Mothers Day is an important day for sons and daughters. They think out good ideas and do something to thank their mothers. Do you know more about the day？ And what do you do for your mother？

The Origin （起源） of Mothers Day

People in many ancient① cultures celebrated holidays to remember Rhea， the Mother of the Gods， including Zeus. The day was Mothers Day in ancient time. When did the modern Mothers Day begin？

Mothers Day became an official holiday in the United States. Her mother was so great. She wanted to remember her mother forever and she wanted to make other people thank their mothers on a special day. Anna and her friends wrote the letters to ministers， businessmen， and politicians for a national Mothers Day. They were successful in the end. Mothers Day became a national festival since 1914. Mothers Day is popular with the people all over the world. It is becoming a international festival.

The Day of Mothers Day

The people in many countries celebrate the day. Mothers Day is on different days in different countries. In the USA， people celebrate the day on the second Sunday of May. We Chinese also celebrate the day on the second Sunday of May.

How to Celebrate the Special Day

People return home for the day to visit their mothers. Usually， people go home with a gift of “mother cake”， a kind of fruitcake. They also give the cards and other gifts to their mothers. They often write their words to thank their mothers. Mothers will be happy to get the gifts from us.

Carnation② was Annas mothers favorite flower. It is polite for us to prepare some carnations for mother. It is a tradition with a long history. Please wear a carnation to express your love to your mother and give her some carnations. But you should choose the right flowers with the right colors. The pink carnation is for a living mother and a white carnation is for a mother who passed away.

Father and children often ask mother to rest on the special day. It is another gift for mother. She is happy to enjoy the day. Father and children will do all the housework. Mother doesnt need to cook， wash and so on.

Chinese sons and daughters do some things as the American people. But we also have our own ways to celebrate the day. We will try to cook for our mothers and draw pictures for them. Sometimes， people will ask their mothers to travel. They may have an activity to find the best mother.

Mothers Day is a special day for everyone！ We use the day to thank and understand our mothers all over the world！ We can do many things for mothers every day， not only on Mothers Day.
