April 20, 2021: The opening ceremony of the 2021 Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) annual conference is held in Boao, Hainan Province. President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech titled “Pulling Together Through Adversity and Toward a Shared Future for All” via video link.

In his speech, Xi outlined the Chinese concept and approach for strengthening global governance against a backdrop of profound changes unseen in a century and in the face of a once-in-a-century pandemic, which are of great importance for enhancing confidence, building consensus globally and guiding Asian countries and the world to work together to overcome the pandemic and foster a better future. April 18, 2021: A birds-eye view of the venue for the BFA annual conference.

From April 18 to 21, the 2021 BFA annual conference was held in Chinas southern island province of Hainan, with the theme “A World in Change: Join Hands to Strengthen Global Governance and Advance Belt and Road Cooperation.” On the 20th anniversary of the BFA, the annual conference was notable as the first largescale international event mainly comprising in-person sessions since the COVID-19 outbreak. April 9, 2021: An exhibit made of wheat is displayed at an exhibition showcasing Chinas achievements in poverty alleviation in Beijing. The exhibition opened at the National Museum of China on March 31, 2021. From one of the first signatories to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Convention on Biological Diversity to advocating joint construction of a Green Silk Road and the establishment of the China South-South Climate Cooperation Fund, China has always been an important participant, contributor and initiator for the construction of a global ecological civilization. April 19, 2021: An aerial light show is presented by unmanned aerial vehicles in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The 1,000 drones beamed lasers to form various patterns such as dragon boats, lion dances, the Hong Kong-ZhuhaiMacao Bridge, flying dragons, and the five-star red flag to celebrate the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Outline of the Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has been in effect for two years since it was formally issued by the State Council of China in February 2019.

One of the urban clusters with the strongest innovation capacity in the world, the Greater Bay Area is developing into a world-class city cluster. A series of supporting policies and measures were launched to accelerate the integration and development of Hong Kong, Macao, and the nine mainland cities in the region.
