1 Toppled spire refurbishment began

The first eight oak trees destined to replace the destroyed spire of Paris' scorched Notre Dame cathedral【大教堂】have been selected from the Berce forestin the French Loire region， church officials said on March 5. The iconic， 96 meter spire was completely destroyed in the fire that ravaged 【毁坏，摧毁】the Paris monument in 2019. It was made by architect Viollet-le-Duc in 1859. The first oaks measure around one meter in diameter. Officials said the 1，00o oaks that are needed to fully rebuild the spire are all scheduled to be cut by the end of March.

Nearly 2.5 billion people worldwide-or l in 4 people- will be living with some degree of hearing loss by 2050， warns the World Health Organization's （WHO） first World Report on Hearing， released on March 2nd. At least 700 million of these people will require acessto ear and hearing care and other rehabilitation【复原，度】services unless action is taken. The report， launched ahead of World Hearing Day on March 3rd， underlines the need to rapidly step up efforts to prevent and address hearing loss by investing and expanding access to ear and hearing care services. Investment in ear and hearing care has been shown to be cost-effe ctiven【划算的，成本效益好的】：WHO calculates that governments can expect a return of nearly $16 for every $1 invested. In children， almost 60% of hearing loss can be prevented through measures such as immunization for prevention of rubella and meningitis， improved maternal and neonatal care， and screening for， and early management of， otitis media-inflammatory diseases of the middle ear. In adults， noise control， safe listening and surveillance of ototoxic medicines together with good ear hygiene can help maintain good hearing and reduce the potential for hearing loss.

China and Russia have agreed to join hands in building and running a robotic scientific outpost on the moon or in lunar orbit， according to the China National Space Administration. On the evening of March 9th， the administration said in a statement that its head， Zhang Kejian， and his Russian counterpart， Dmitry Rogozin， director-general of state space corporation Roscosmos，signed a memorandum 【备忘录】of understanding on joint efforts to build an “international lunar research station" during a teleconference 【视频会议】earlier that day after receiving approval from both governments. The CNSA and Roscosmos will negotiate on matters about the station's planning， design， construction and operations， and will work together to build and run it. Both nations want to open the station to international cooperation so it can serve as a platform to boost scientific exchanges and foster peaceful exploration and development of outer space， according to the statement. It said that the station will be a base on the lunar surface or in a lunar orbit for comprehensive scientific research and technology demonstration.

On March 8th，China officially kicked off【开始（做某事）】a mini program，backed by the social media App WeChat， that enables subscribers to obtain a Chinese version of an international travel health certificate【证书;文凭;许可证】，allowing people-to-people exchanges to resume in a safe and orderly way. While protecting personal privacy， the certificate will help achieve mutual【相互的，彼此的】recognition of information such as CovD-19 nucleic acid testing and vaccination. Chinais willing to discuss mutual recognition of vaccination， and how it would work， with other countries， State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a news conference on the sidelines of the ongoing session of the National People's Congress， the nation's top legislature. On January 21st， Iceland became the first European country to provide COVID-19 vaccination certificates to its citizens who have received two doses of the vaccine.
