中国武术帮助古巴人民应对新冠肺炎封城

Aleida Chavez, 69, is one of thousands of Cubans who practice Chinese martial arts. They help them stay in shape and even keep mental4 health, especially5 in hard times.

“Chinese martial arts make me feel not only healthy but relaxed. I forget about the coronavirus6 and day-to-day problems for a while,” Chavez says. “I am a senior citizen, but feel energetic7. I ask my family and close friends to join this exciting activity.”

Roberto Vargas Lee, president of the Cuban School of Wushu and Qigong, says with gyms and sports centers closed during the lockdown, more Cubans are turning to the Chinese martial arts.
古巴武术和气功学校的校长罗伯托·巴尔加斯·李说,在封锁期间体育馆和运动中心关闭的情况下,越来越多的古巴人开始学习中国武术。
“Chinese martial arts are never forgotten. They help people to keep harmony8 with nature and take care of their bodies while strengthening9 their minds,” Vargas said. “The world needs the spirit10 of Chinese martial arts to find balance11,” he said.
“中国武术从未被遗忘。它帮助人们与自然和谐相处,照顾身体,同时加强思想。”巴尔加斯说,“世界需要中国武术精神来寻求平衡。”
According to history, Chinese martial arts in Cuba followed the coming of the first Chinese emigrants12 in 1847, and grew fast in the early 20th century.

Now, Chinese martial arts lessons will be on Cuban TV.

Isis Betancourt, 45, a doctor and news anchor13 on Cuban TV said people will welcome the program. He said,“Chinese martial arts are more than sports. They are more about an idea of life that has been passed down from history.”
