November 14, 2020: An aerial view of the Shanghai National Exhibition and Convention Center, the venue for the third China International Import Expo(CIIE) held from November 4 to 10.
In his keynote speech via video link at the opening ceremony of the third CIIE, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that this years expo convened at a special time. COVID-19, which caught everyone by surprise, has hit many countries hard and dealt a heavy blow to the world economy. Confident in containment protocols put in place, China hosted the global trade event as scheduled. November 6, 2020: The “Lezo Planet,” an installation created by toy giant LEGO Group, is on display in the Consumer Goods exhibition area during the third CIIE. With a diameter of two meters, it took nine builders 242 hours to construct and another 51 hours to install.
Covering 90,000 square meters, the Consumer Goods exhibition area gathered beauty and cosmetics products, household goods and gifts, intelligent devices and household appliances, maternal and child products, sports and outdoor leisure equipment, fashion, and art. November 6, 2020: New Zealand dairy company Theland, the first enterprise to register to display their products in the Food and Agricultural Products exhibition area during the third CIIE. Global exhibitors embraced Chinese live-streaming platforms this year.
The Food and Agricultural Products exhibition area of the CIIE, which has become known as the “World Kitchen,” has been a popular place for exhibitors to display their innovations and products every year. About 90,000 square meters of space for this section was set aside for this years expo, which featured dairy products, vegetables, fruit and other agricultural products, meat, aquatic products, snacks, candy, condiments, beverages and alcohol, and other consumable items. November 6, 2020: Japanese glass manufacturer AGC displays 5G on-glass antennas in the Intelligent Industry & Information Technology exhibition area of the third CIIE.
Products related to high-end machinery, material processing, industrial automation, and energy conservation displayed in this exhibition area attracted many visitors and buyers. The Intelligent Industry & Information Technology exhibition area at this years CIIE was upgraded and expanded to 70,000 square meters across three exhibition halls. November 5, 2020: Carl Zeiss AG, a German manufacturer of optical systems and optoelectronics, exhibits their quality inspection devices for medical equipment like ventilators and CT scanners.
“An unfitting respirator mask on the ventilator will increase the risk of cross-infection and threaten the safety of medical workers,” said a clerk from the company at the third CIIE.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has caused a surging demand for medical equipment, which the production capacity of existing medical device companies could hardly meet. Many companies that had not specialized in products related to epidemic prevention joined the effort, but they are now facing the bottleneck of improving product quality.
