October 7, 2020: A bullet train travels through Kaili in Chinas southwestern Guizhou Province. China railway welcomed a peak passenger flow during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, transporting 14.8 million passengers on the first day (October 1), a singleday record since the outbreak of COVID-19. Chinas daily passenger trips via railways, highways, waterways, and civil aviation reached 62.12 million during the eight-day holiday. Passenger flow to domestic tourist hotspot cities saw a new peak since the epidemic. Xinhua

October 17, 2020: Many visitors crowd to enjoy the red leaves at Fragrant Hill Park in Beijing as the park is braced for the peak season. Mid-October to early November is the best time to admire red leaves here. This year, the park has limited capacity to 75 percent, and tickets have to be booked online in advance. The maximum visitor flow in the park in a single day was 75,750. VCG

October 1, 2020: Zhangye Danxia Geopark in Chinas northwestern Gansu Province is crowded with tourists from all over the country. The Danxia scenic spot is famous for its spectacular colorful rock formations. At the 209th session of the UNESCO Executive Board in July 2020, the geopark was designated a UNESCO Global Geopark. October 4, 2020: The Dacisi Community Theater stages a Sichuan Opera performance in Chengdu, capital of Chinas southwestern Sichuan Province. The venue was packed with more than 120 opera fans. Latecomers had to sit outside. Some passersby stopped and watched through the door. One can spend just 20 yuan (US$3) on tea and enjoy all the four Sichuan Opera performances staged in the whole afternoon. A traditional Chinese opera, Sichuan Opera is popular in southwestern China and has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage item. VCG

October 3, 2020: Nuit Blanche (“Sleepless Night”) turns Paris, France into an all-night festival of lights celebrating art and culture. Since its inception in 2002, the festival has been held annually on the first Saturday of October. It offers a chance to visit museums across the city at night for free. Public transportation also runs through the night. To maintain social distancing this year, the event offered multiple venues and restricted visitors from entering cultural facilities with a social bubble of no more than 10 people. VCG
