It was a long week for Amanda at school. She stayed after school to work on a special project three days in a row. When she got home on Friday, she dropped into the chair with a sigh (嘆气).
“Whats going on, Amanda?” her dad asked as he was reading the newspaper.
“I have to create a webpage for my technology class, and it is taking a lot more time than I thought it would,” answered Amanda.
Her dad looked over his newspaper and asked Amanda what the webpage was about.
“Its about the difference between newspaper news and Internet news,” Amanda said and added, “I have to provide information, examples and illustrations (插图).”
“Sounds tough. Do you have someone to help you?” asked her dad.
“I have a partner named Zach,” Amanda replied. “We did research on the Internet today and found some pictures to use.”
Then Amanda explained to her father the main differences: newspaper news is printed on paper, and Internet news is published online; newspaper news is only available once a day, and Internet news is published almost as soon as the news happens; many newspapers dont even print a daily paper, and Internet news is published around the clock.
Amandas dad asked, “Which type of news do you like better?”
“I like Internet news better because I like to learn about the news when it happens,” answered she.
Her dad said, “I still like newspaper news better because I like to hold the paper in my hands and turn the pages.”
Amanda dropped into her chair again and said, “You are so old school, Dad.”

These bright-red crabs from the ocean are also called tuna crabs. Each one is about 1 to 3 inches long. Although they look like tiny crawfish or lobsters, they arent good for eating since they dont have a lot of meat. Also their meat is poisonous, causing those who eat the meat to become sick. So residents dont catch them for meat. These crabs are active during the day but prefer to stay in the shade and can die in the heat of direct sunlight.
Marine experts (海洋生物学家) say the crab population increase is likely a result of the El Nino weather pattern. This natural climate pattern occurs when the water in the Pacific Ocean near the equator gets hotter than usual. The warmer waters linked to El Nino pushed large quantities of the crabs up north from Mexico, the marine experts said.
This isnt the first time that El Nino has affected the location of creatures living in the Pacific Ocean. The black skimmer is a subtropical seabird that has been spotted off the coast of San Diego, much further north than it usually lives. Marin needlefish, sea hares, and Dana Point whales have also appeared in areas further north than their typical habitats.
The red tuna crabs have been washed up along the coastline of Southern California for the past several years. Before that, they hadnt been seen in the area for decades.
32. What does the underlined word “startled” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Worried. B. Thrilled. C. Shocked. D. Confused.
33. What probably pushed the red crabs up north according to the marine experts?
A. Warmer waters. B. Air pollution. C. Heavy Rains. D. Habitat loss.
34. What do we know about the red crabs?
A. They live in the Pacific Ocean. B. They are fond of enjoying sunshine.
C. They are delicious to eat. D. They are a kind of crawfish.
35. What does the text mainly talk about?
A. El Nino is changing the location of many creatures.
B. Red crabs are suffering from extinction because of heat.
C. Residents of Southern California are threatened by red crabs.
D. Countless tuna crabs appeared on the beaches of Southern California.

When you arrive at the weekend itself, therell be a short briefing (简报) to review the handbooks contents.
39 Youll see candles on each of the tables. A fire will burn in the fireplace. At many of the tables, people will sit talking, arguing, and laughing. These people are our staff volunteers. 40 But now they are all costumed and playing roles as citizens of the village of Worlds Edge.
