Great Wall Standing Strong
August 20, Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province: Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, visits the Jiayu Pass, a famed part of the Great Wall built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), during his inspection tour of the northwestern province of Gansu.
During the visit, he stressed that the Great Wall, alongside the Yangtze and Yellow rivers, is an important symbol of the Chinese nation and its spirit.
“We must attach importance to the efforts in keeping our history and culture alive and strong to preserve our roots for the survival and thriving of the Chinese ethos,” Xi said.
Cornerstone Cooperation
August 21, Beijing: Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi (center), Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono (right) and Republic of Korea (ROK) Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha attend a ceremony marking the launch of a picture album featuring the three countries after the ninth meeting of the countries foreign ministers.
During the meeting, China, Japan and the ROK vowed to advocate multilateralism and promote regional peace, positioning their cooperation as the cornerstone of Northeast Asias prosperity and stability.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the China-Japan-ROK cooperation mechanism. The meeting, which came amid tensions in bilateral ties and the trend of anti-globalization, helped boost confidence and expectations for regional development and the global economy.
Socialism Demonstration Area
Shenzhen, Guangdong Province: The towering skyline of the city. Shenzhen, once a trailblazer of Chinas reform and opening up, has received a new mission to lead Chinas socialist path as “a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics,” according to a document issued by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on August 18. The document laid out goals that include catapulting the city into the worlds top echelon of innovation, public services and eco-environment and serving as a pacesetter for the nation.
Experts consider the move a high-profile recognition of Shenzhens development model that will incentivize regional integration between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
Lingang Special Area
August 6, Shanghai: A pre-launch birds-eye view of Lingang Special Area. Lingang Special Area, Shanghais latest Pilot Free Trade Zone, officially opened on August 20. The new section meets the standards of the most competitive free trade zones worldwide and will facilitate overseas investment and capital flow, according to the development plan.
The launch of Lingang Special Area is a move to further open up Chinas economy. By 2035, the area is expected to become a special economic function zone with strong global influence and competitiveness and an important platform for the country to further integrate into economic globalization.

August 20, Beijing: A biomimetic robot fish attracts a childs attention at the 2019 World Robot Conference. Themed “Intelligent Ecosystem for a New Open Era,” the event ran from August 20 to 25 at Beijing Etrong International Exhibition & Convention Center and featured more than 700 exhibits of cutting-edge robotic technologies and products.
Chinas robot market will account for about 29.5 percent of the worlds total in 2019, according to a report on Chinas robot industry released on the sidelines of the event. The report also indicates that Chinas industrial robot market is expected to exceed US$5.7 billion, and its service robot market will reach US$2.2 billion. The countrys thriving robot industry will help promote the development of the digital economy and intelligent manufacturing and change the way people work and live, said experts.
