Monkey King is very powerful(强大的). He is the main character(主角) of Journey to the West(《西游记》), one of the four great classical novels(四大名著).
The novel tells the story of Xuanzang and his three disciples’(弟子的) journey(旅程) from China to India(印度) in the Tang Dynasty(唐代).
On the journey, they meet many monsters(妖怪). The monsters believe they can live forever(永遠) by eating Xuanzang. So they try to catch and eat him. But the three disciples protect(保护) their master(师父) well.
The first disciple(弟子) is Sun Wukong. He has a pair of sharp eyes(火眼金睛). When a monster turns into(变成) a human, he can tell(辨别). But his master doesn’t know this. He punishes(惩罚) Wukong by mistake(误解地). But Wukong is still loyal(忠诚的) to him.
Zhu Bajie is lazy and greedy(贪吃的). Sometimes he is a troublemaker(麻烦制造者) so that his master always worries(担心) about him. But he is kind.
Sha Wujing doesn’t talk a lot, but he always helps Wukong. He always carries the heavy luggage(行李) on the way.
Xuanzang’s horse is the Dragon Prince of Western Sea(西海龙王三太子). He used to be(过去是) a man. But he ate Xuanzang’s horse by mistake. So the Goddess of Mercy(观音) turned him into a white horse to travel with Xuanzang.
About the author
Wu Cheng’en was a novelist(小说家) of the Ming Dynasty(明朝). He spent seven years on writing Journey to the West. He created(创造) an imaginary(想象中的) world of monsters and gods. The story holds a mirror(反射) to the time he lived in.
