中国的万里长城

There are many wonders（奇迹） in the world. They’re amazing（神奇的）. Nature（大自然） makes many wonders. People make wonders，too！ Let’s start from the Great Wall of our country.

About 2，000 years ago，there were seven smaller countries in China. There were often wars（戰争）. People built big walls to keep enemies（敌人） out of their country.

Later，Emperor Qin Shihuang（秦始皇） asked the people to join（连接） the walls of different countries. The people were farmers，soldiers（士兵） and prisoners（囚犯）. They put bricks（砖头） and stones together by hand. A lot of people died in building the wall. The Qin Dynasty Great Wall is the oldest part（部分） of the wall.

The Great Wall has thousands of beacon towers. In the old times，soldiers used them to look out（监视） for the enemy.

When they found the enemy，they would light a fire（点火） and make smoke（烟）. It would tell their partners（伙伴） the enemy was coming.
