Mount Everest is the world's highest peak.It was a mountain that countless climbers wanted toconquerall their lives. Many adventurers even paid the price of their lives. However, with the progress of technology, climbing Mount Everest becomes easier and easier, and even develops into an industrial chain. As long as you have good physical fitness or you pay money, there will be professionals to accompany you up.
But because of this, thepureland, which should be far away from the human world, has become a garbagedump.Every year, tourists who climb Mount Everest leave a lot of rubbish on the mountain, such as plastic bags, abandoned tents, all kinds of mountaineering equipment, exhausted oxygencylinders, and even the bodies of the victims and so on.Everest has become one of the highest garbage dumps in the world.
Therefore,a clean-up campaign has begun at Mount Everest, aiming to airlift 100 tonnes of rubbish left behind by tourists and climbers of the world's highest mountain. The Eco Everest Expedition has hit the mountain each year since 2008 totacklethe problem, and they've collected over 13 tons of waste so far.
Mountaineers are required to bring back whatever waste they generate on their climb. But every year, local guides still gather hundreds of kilograms of rubbish.Hence, the Nepalese government enforced a new rule starting in 2014 that each climber of Everest must bring down 8 kilograms of waste on theirdescent, otherwise they will lose their$4,000deposit.
This year's clean-up campaign is focused on the items that could be recycled in the capital city, with privately-owned Yeti airlines helping to transport. They will continue toshippiles of recyclable rubbish throughout the year.
Clean-up programmes have been run by local guides, known as Sherpas, for decades, but are nowcoordinatedby the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC), named after the Nepalese name of the mountain.
As well as managing the industrial waste, the SPCC and local guides have to deal with the biological waste left by so many visitors. In 2015,the country's mountaineering association warned that humanfeceswere becoming a health hazard.Since then, the SPCC has builtportabletoilets around the key mountain camps.
