On the hottest days in the summer season, the courtyard grass in front of the monastery was largely scorched to death. The young monk said:“We’d better sow some grass seeds; the ground looks so terrible.”
“Not until the weather gets cool,” the master replied,“Just go with the time.”
During the Mid-autumn Festival, the master came back with a pack of grass seeds and asked the young monk to scatter them in the courtyard. Some of the seeds settled into the earth while some flew away in the autumn wind.“Some are blown away. That’s no good!” the young monk cried out.
“Nothing matters. Those blown away are mostly empty, and they won’t come out in time.” The master muttered,“Leave it to nature.”
Right after it was done,a few birds came and pecked at the seeds.“My gosh! They are all being grabbed up by the birds!”The young monk jumped up with anxiety.
“No worry! There are more than they can eat up.” The master grumbled,“Rest with chances.”
During midnight, there came a heavy downpour. The young monk rushed into the meditation chamber and shouted: “That’s really the end of it,Master! Many seeds were washed away.”
“They will sprout wherever they are carried.” The master said,“Go with the karma.”
A week later, over the originally bare ground grew a lot of green grass.Even the place without seed distribution glowed with a tender greenness.
The young monk clapped his hands with joy.“Follow your delight.” The master nodded.
