June 20 to 21,2018,the First Wanshou Dialogue on Global Security organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament(CPAPD)was held in Beijing.Some 50 renowned scholars on security studies from China and 19 other countries including the United States,Russia,Japan,Germany and India,etc.were present.Focusing on Asia-Pacific Security,scholars had in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics like Sino-U.S.relations and Asia-Pacific security,security situation in Northeast Asia and its prospects,and security mechanisms building in the Asia-Pacific region.
Song Tao,Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee(IDCPC)delivered a keynote speech entitled Building Consensus and Making Concerted Efforts toward a Secure Homeland in Asia-Pacific,in which he elaborated his views on current international security and the Asia-Pacific security situation,explained China’s policies and concepts on building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for humankind.
Wang Yajun,Vice Minister of the IDCPC and Advisor to the CPAPD made a speech at the opening ceremony hoping that Wanshou Dialogue on Global Security would become a high-end and professional platform for discussing international security issues.Yu Hongjun and Zhou Li,both Vice President of the CPAPD attended all sessions of the dialogue.Fu Ying,Vice Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee,13th National People’s Congress attended a working dinner and addressed the audience.
Experts and scholars from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,National Defense University of the PLA, China Institute of International Studies, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations,Tsinghua University,Renmin University of China,and University of International Relations participated in the dialogue and exchanged views with their overseas colleagues on issues of common concerns,etc..
All participants highly value the dialogue,believing that it is held at the right time,and has achieved the goal to have in-depth exchanges,promote mutual understanding,seek common ground while putting aside difference,and build consensus.To organize such a seminar is an active exploration by the CPAPD under new circumstances,strengthening security studies,and making great efforts to build a platform for dialogues on global security issues
July 6,2018,CPAPD Secretary General An Yuejun met with the delegation of Japan Congress against A-and H-Bombs.Both sides shared views on issues of common interests,such as the exchanges and cooperation between two organizations,Sino-Japanese relations and so on.
July 15 to 22,2018,at the invitation by the American Friends Service Committee(AFSC)and Panama Society of International Studies,CPAPD Deputy Secretary General Tao Tao headed a CPAPD delegation on a visit to the United States and Panama.
In the United States,the delegation attended the 8th China-U.S.Civil Peace Forum co-sponsored by the CPAPD,AFSC and the U.S.Institute of Peace in Washington DC.Over twenty experts and scholars from China and the United States attended the forum,exchanging views on issues like China-U.S.relations under Trump Administration,China-U.S.relationship and security cooperation,China-U.S.relationship and economic cooperation including cooperation with the third party,and China-U.S.cooperation on peacekeeping and international aid,etc.Besides,the delegation also called on the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs of the U.S.State Department,Pew Research Center,Center for American Progress,and Center for a New American Security.
During its stay in Panama,the delegation had a work discussion with colleagues of Panama Society of International Studies,as well as meetings with scholars from School of Public Governance of Panama University and leader of Torrijos Foundation.
August 24,2018,CPAPD Vice President Zhou Li met with Grigor Peterosyan,President of the Peace Committee of Armenia.Both sides shared views on issues of common interests,such as the exchanges and cooperation between two organizations and so on.
November 20,2018,CPAPD Vice President Zhou Li met with a Japanese delegation of Japanese Association for Inheriting and Developing Murayama Statement headed by Torigoe Shuntaro.The two sides shared in-depth discussions on issues of common concerns,such as the exchange and cooperation between two organizations,etc.
