The furthest distance is not between life and death, but when I sit in front of you, yet you… are fiddling with your smart phone.
This popular and ironic saying exactly indicates the dangers of smart phone addiction: alienate human being and destroy our social competence.
Whenever new things show up in the world, there are people for them and people against them. It is true with smart phone. The world has entered the IT age and people cant possibly survive without smart phone. There is no doubt that smart phone shortens the distance between us because we can use it to contact with each other at any time. In particular, for those people who are far away from each other, smart phone is definitely the best tool for them to keep and strengthen their relationships. But on the other hand, the preoccupation with smart phone do harm than good to human relationship.
According to a recent survey for 8000 smart phone users from 11 countries, 90% said they take their phone wherever they go;60% admit they are addicted to smart phone;40% said they cannot survive without smart phone even for a single day. Why are modern people dominated by smart phone The most important reason is that smart phone has various functions, ranging from shopping, video games, and social network. With the use of social software like We-chat, QQ, Facebook, it seems that we are so eager to be close with our friends that we want to know everything about them on every minute. We keep on fiddling with the phone for fear of missing one single message from the social network. The result is that we become the phubbers, smart phone addicts, and forget face to face communication with our friends or family members, reducing genuine communication and destroying emotion exchange.
As any other modern inventions, smart phone is not to blame. It is our attitude toward the invention that causes the problem. Therefore, we should make smart phone serve us, not dominate us. Next time when you stay with friends or family members, please raise your head from the smart phone and communicate with the person in front of you!
