An Invitation to the World
2018-08-24
The fi rst China International Import Expo(CIIE) will take place on November 5-10, and as the fi rst ever expo in the world with imports as the theme, it will be a big event with an eye on pressing ahead with a new round of opening up at a higher level. This will be a major step in Chinas resolute support for economic globalization and the countrys active opening up of its market to the world.
To date, enterprises from approximately 130 countries and regions will participate in the exhibition, which will host a series of supporting activities ranging from industry symposiums to product launches, according to event organizers.
This is a big move by China to safeguard economic globalization, which is a manifestation of how the world economy grows and serves as its driving force. However, a raging tide of anti-globalization in recent years in the international community has had a negative impact on global economic growth. Under such circumstances, the import expo gives full expression to Chinas consistent stand regarding its support of the multilateral trading system and free trade development. The expo is also a positive signal that demonstrates Chinas opposition to protectionism and its resolve to build and shield an open economy.
By organizing the CIIE, China pledges to expand its opening up policy by increasing its imports and open a wider market to the world. This showcases Chinas determination to pursue development with its doors open wider and wider.
It is also a move to share the fruits of Chinas economic development with the world. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Chinas reform and opening up through which it has made great economic achievements, becoming the worlds second largest economy and the second largest importer and consumer. In the next fi ve years, China will import more than $10 trillion goods and services from other countries, which will provide an unprecedented opportunity for companies around the world to share the fruits of Chinas economic development.
The coming CIIE refl ects the Chinese Governments initiative to meet peoples ever-growing needs for a better life, as proposed by the report to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. By increasing the importation of high quality products and services, the expo will contribute to enriching domestic consumption options, encouraging the backflow of outbound consumption, optimizing the consumption structure and promoting a consumption upgrade.
