2018-05-14
On February 8, the “Mekong River Brightness Journey 2018,” jointly sponsored by the governments and friendship associations of Ruili, China, and Muse, Myanmar, officially kicked off. The project aims to help cataract patients recover their sight by bringing a Chinese medical team to Myanmar.
“Mekong River Brightness Journey” is an important cooperative initiative proposed by Premier Li Keqiang at the First Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders Meeting in March 2016. The first such event took place in Mandalay, Myanmar in August 2017. A Chinese medical team operated on about 200 local cataract patients.
The medical team making the journey this year consists of doctors from the Dehong Prefectural Peoples Hospital and Ruili Municipal Peoples Hospital. Over the course of the year, doctors will operate on 180 cataract patients in Muse.
Ruili and Muse are closely linked in economics, culture, healthcare and other areas as “sister cities.” Cooperation on this project will boost friendship between the two cities and the two countries.
