So this paper will focus on how to integrate the good teaching method of oral English class to active students to learn intensive reading course.
【Key words】intensive reading; oral English; teaching methods; liven up
1. Introduction
Intensive reading is one of the most important courses in English teaching. Andrew D Cohen & Susan J. Weaver pointed out that “language learners have preferred styles and strategies within their repertoire, they also experience shifts in motivation from one moment to the next.” (Andrew D. Cohen and Susan J. Weaver, 2006).So the author did some survey and found that oral English class was more interesting for students which can active the students motivation of learning English. Therefore, this paper will focus on how to add the merit of Oral English classs teaching to liven up intensive reading course.
2. Comparison of the two courses
2.1 Teaching processes of oral English
From an oral English teaching processes, the author finds that the activities of oral English class are many more than those of intensive reading class and oral English class is more flexible.oral English is taught by foreign teachers, and the atmosphere of oral English class is active and flexible;so it shows that the teacher of oral English changes their focus of teaching and students attention in an alternative way.
2.2 The teaching processes of intensive reading.
From a regular teaching processes, the author finds there are little activities in intensive reading class and intensive reading spends most of the time on the text explanation which taught by Chinese teachers who are good at translation;the atmosphere of intensive reading is different from oral English class.
3. My case study
Now, the case study will help the author improve the analyses. This case study has four stages:first, design the case study;second, conduct the case study;third, analyze the case study evidence;and forth, develop the conclusions, recommendations and implications. the author wants to gain more advises and suggestions from the intervenes. Qualitative research methods are utilized in this study, The data analysis that 93.3% of the interviewers admitted that teachers personal charm may affect learners., about 66.7% of the students felt that they are under a stress when they have intensive reading. From the investigation, the author finds that most of the students do not feel satisfied with their intensive reading textbooks and worried about their intensive reading course, while they feel at ease when taking oral English class.
4. Problems in intensive teaching
Problems found through my research are as follows:(a) most of the intensive reading classes are a little bit quite, what the students do most is note-taking;(b) students seldom have chances to communicate with the teacher in class;(c) most of the students think that the texts of intensive reading are so long and some of the texts are very boring and dull;(d) most of the students can not understand some texts for they are lack of background knowledge.
5. Solutions
1)A scientific study habit plays a vital role in English learning. It has much to do with the results. Students who have mastered some learning skills can learn more efficiently. 2)An English teacher not only should be strict with his students, but also should make the students feel his love for them. 3)Motivating the students interest of learning English is an important aspect in teaching English. In order to keep the students desire, we should try to use all kinds of techniques to make the lessons lively and interesting.
6. Conclusion
From the above, we can see surely that trying to use various teaching methods and techniques of oral English can make the situation of intensive reading teaching different. So adding the good teaching methods of oral English to intensive reading is very important for the students to learn language actively and effectively, but it is not as easy as it seems to be if you want to help the students have great progress. After some interviews as well as book readings, finally the author realizes that the art of teaching intensive reading needs a lot of efforts and can only be acquired through practice. However, this topic deserves further discussion.
