APEC: TOWARD NEW DYNAMIC GROWTH
The beautiful Vietnamese port city of Da Nang is preparing to host the 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) Summit scheduled for Nov.6-11. The event will mark the second time the intergovernmental forum is held in Vietnam following the 2006 APEC Summit.
Themed on “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future”, the 2017 APEC meetings will focus on four main priorities. These priorities include “Promoting Sustainable, Innovative and Inclusive Growth”, “Deepening Regional Economic Integration”, “Strengthening MSMEs’ Competitiveness and Innovation in the Digital Age” and“Enhancing Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in Response to Climate Change”, aiming to seek new engines for economic growth while opening a new chapter for economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Since its inception in 1989, APEC has grown from a forum for driving forward the regional economy to the highest-level economic cooperation mechanism with the largest coverage and greatest influence in Asia-Pacific.It has assumed an irreplaceable role in promoting regional trade and investment liberalization and facilitation while also enhancing economic and technological cooperation between members.
Over the years, China and ASEAN countries have taken an active role in APEC events, and along with their increased collaboration, China and ASEAN will produce a profound influence upon the regional economic cooperation mechanism like never before.
