Yang Liwei （center）， Chinas fi rst man in space who orbited the earth in 2003， undergoes sea survival training in waters off the coast of Yantai in east Chinas Shandong Province on August 17.
A group of astronauts comprising 16 Chinese and two Europeans—German Matthias Josef Maurer and Italian Samantha Cristoforetti—completed the training in a 17-day joint program on August 21. The two Europeans became the fi rst foreigners to participate in astronaut training in China.endprint
