Established on May 1， 1947 and covering about 12 percent of Chinas land area， Inner Mongolia is the nations fi rst provincial-level autonomous region. Since its founding， the regions GDP had grown 642-fold to reach 1.86 trillion yuan （$277.6 billion） in 2016.
