A f lag-raising ceremony marking the opening of Chinas f irst overseas logistical base was held in Djibouti on August 1， the same day as the 90th founding anniversary of the Peoples Liberation Army.
As a hub for Chinese vessels to resupply and recuperate， the base will also contribute to anti-piracy missions， peacekeeping and humanitarian rescues in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off Somalia.
Located near the southern entrance to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden， Djibouti is a vital point in the route along the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road.
